In the short clip, Legend can be heard asking, “What is happening here?” as he films Teigen scrubbing her leg in the murky water. Teigen responds, “I’m getting all my body makeup off,” while using an exfoliating cleanser from Legend’s skincare line, Loved01. Legend captioned the post, “Sometimes you gotta exfoliate!” and tagged his wife along with her favorite Loved01 product.
The video quickly drew mixed reactions. Some fans were visibly disturbed by the appearance of the water, questioning its cleanliness. Comments ranged from “IDGAF if it is makeup, it looks dirty,” to “She didn’t have to sit in a bathtub of water to exfoliate her body… yuck.” Others suggested that not everything needs to be shared on social media.
Teigen, known for her quick wit and unfiltered responses, didn’t hesitate to address the criticism. She jumped into the comments to clarify, “The water is dirty because I’m getting my body makeup off, like I said in the video my sweet angels!” Her response garnered over 12,000 likes, but the debate continued.
To further defend herself, Teigen shared the same video on her own Instagram account the following day. She captioned it, “Currently getting roasted online for being dirty because no one listened to the audio where I say I’m soaking off body makeup (to shower after!).” She also noted the heated discussions happening in the comments of Legend’s post, adding, “My favorite is ‘baths are not for bathing.’ I love a good old-fashioned roasting though, you guys are killing it (it being never touching grass ever).”
Legend also chimed in on Teigen’s follow-up post, humorously commenting, “Baths are not for bathing is some amazing internet-ness.” The couple’s playful banter did little to quell the ongoing debate, with some fans continuing to express their disapproval.
One fan took the criticism a step further by sharing the video on their Instagram Stories, suggesting, “Please take a shower next time – Tub is for soaking not bathing @chrissyteigen.” Teigen responded by resharing the post to her own Instagram Story, adding, “I was soaking my body makeup off then showering but thank you for your tips, thank you for the tag.
Despite the backlash, Teigen remained unfazed, even poking fun at the situation. “TUBS ARE NOT FOR BATHING. The internet is unhinged,” she wrote in another follow-up post. This isn’t the first time Teigen has faced negativity on social media, and she has a history of clapping back at her critics with humor and sarcasm.
Supporters of Teigen also came to her defense, pointing out that she had clearly explained the reason for the water’s appearance. “She literally says that she’s getting her body makeup off. Teigen and Legend are currently in France for the Cannes Lions festival, where Legend performed at a Spotify event.
