Christian McCaffrey is standing up for his wife Olivia Culpo, days after the two walked down the aisle. The NFL star, 28, firmly defended his new wife’s decision to wear a modest, full-coverage Dolce & Gabbana crepe ball gown during their Saturday, June 29, ceremony after a stylist harshly critiqued the look in a video posted on Instagram and TikTok.
The video begins with stylist Kennedy Bingham describing the bride’s wedding day look as “nothing” and “the absence of personality.” She adds that while Culpo, 32, and the dress are both “beautiful,” everything “surrounding” it gives her a “bitter aftertaste.”
Bingham specifically responded to an interview quote Culpo gave Vogue saying that she wanted her wedding dress to not “exude sex in any way, shape, or form.” The content creator explains that there is “nothing wrong” with Culpo’s decision to wear “modest attire,” but the “way that she was talking about this went beyond just wanting something modest for herself and pushing this idea of what she thinks all brides should look like.”
Bingham explained that it is “your choice” whether or not you want to exude sex with your wardrobe and that the same dress would look different depending on the way the wearer carries herself. She added that “it has been documented that it does not matter what women wear; they will be sexualized if someone wants to sexualize them.”
In her video, Bingham adds that it is “weird” that Culpo talks about “coverage” since she’s “not a modest dresser” in her everyday life. She also expresses that the model used her nuptials to market a “conservative agenda.” Near the end of the almost six-minute clip, Bingham critiques Culpo’s decision to have her wedding dress designed by Dolce & Gabbana.
Bingham called out the fashion house founders’ stance on same-sex couples, its controversial earrings from its 2013 spring collection, a 2018 campaign that pushed Chinese stereotypes and previous criticism of Selena Gomez. She firmly buckled down on her opinion, captioning the post, “From Miss Universe to Miss Pick Me 👑.”
McCaffrey took a stance in the comment section, writing, “What an evil thing to post online. I hope you can find joy and peace in the world, the way my beautiful wife does.” In her Instagram Stories, Bingham also shared a screenshot of Culpo, 32, defending the look in the comment section of the TikTok post.
“Wow what an absolutely evil person you are, I hope no one ever tears you apart in this way because it’s extremely hurtful. I love this dress and it was everything I ever wanted and more,” Culpo wrote.
The screenshot showed that Bingham replied, “So we just aren’t going to acknowledge how your words come across to other people or the background of the designers you’re supporting? Like I said, the dress is beautiful and you look stunning. It’s everything surrounding it I didn’t agree with.”
Christian McCaffrey defended wife Olivia Culpo on Tuesday after a fashion influencer posted a lengthy critique of the newlywed’s Dolce & Gabbana wedding dress on social media. On Monday, stylist Kennedy Bingham discussed the long-sleeve ball gown Culpo, 32, wore for her June 29 nuptials to the 49ers running back in Rhode Island, stating “there is no personality in this dress.”
“Usually wedding dresses will have something of the bride injected into it, whether it’s a little bit of beading some jewelry, detailing, something, this is just nothing, it’s the absence of personality,” Bingham said in the nearly six-minute clip on TikTok, which has amassed two million views as of Thursday.
McCaffrey, 28, fired back at Bingham on her Instagram page, where the video was also shared, and commented: “What an evil thing to post online. I hope you can find joy and peace in the world, the way my beautiful wife does.”
Culpo also responded to the critique, as documented in a screenshot captured by Bingham, and said: “Wow what an absolutely evil person you are. I hope no one ever tears you apart in this way because it’s extremely hurtful. I love this dress and it was everything I wanted and more.”
In Bingham’s video, the stylist also dissected comments made by Culpo in a recent interview with Vogue, where she explained she didn’t want her dress “to exude sex in any way, shape, or form,” and that she wanted the look to be “as serious” as the “covenant” of marriage.
“If I were to just look at the dress, I would see a beautiful bride in a beautiful, simple, elegant dress. If we stopped there at just the way the dress looks, we’d really have nothing to say, but it’s all the stuff surrounding the dress that leaves kind of a bitter aftertaste,” Bingham said.
“… Now listen, there is nothing wrong with wanting a modest wedding dress, or just modest attire in general, but the way that she was talking about this went beyond just wanting something modest for herself and pushing this idea of what she thinks all brides should look like.”
Bingham also found it “weird” how much Culpo spoke about “coverage,” as the former Miss Universe winner told Vogue: “When I think about Christian and what he loves and the moments that he thinks that I’m most beautiful, it’s absolutely in something like this: timeless, covered, and elegant.”
The couple has been together since 2019 and got engaged in 2023.
“I also just think it’s so weird how much she’s talking about coverage, especially as someone who in her day-to-day life is not exactly a modest dresser… I just think the usage of the word covered is so icky because you are not covered in day-to-day life, and also, why is he thinking you’re the most beautiful when you’re covered? That’s such an odd thing,” Bingham said.
Bingham capped off the video by stating, “It’s very clear that this was not a wedding, this was a conservative campaign, and it wasn’t even well done.”
“… You took this disingenuous pick-me route that honestly felt more like you were thinking about your narrative than you were about your actual marriage,” continued Bingham, who captioned the clip: “From Miss Universe to Miss Pick Me.”
In addition to the ball gown, Culpo sported two other looks for the reception and afterparty. She and McCaffrey have been together since 2019.
Christian McCaffrey isn’t standing for any negativity against his wife, Olivia Culpo. On Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers star, 28, came to his wife’s defense in the comments section, under a video taking aim at her Dolce & Gabbana wedding gown. On Tuesday, social media influencer Kennedy Bingham shared a video on Instagram and TikTok where she criticized Culpo’s wedding dress, from the structure to the controversial designers. For the big day, Culpo, 32, wore a white gown by Dolce & Gabbana that featured long sleeves, a crepe crew neck and a 16-foot lace veil. In the video, Bingham disagreed with the way that Culpo described her dress as “modest” and ultimately believes that the gown was “nothing,” and noted that it had an “absence of personality.” Furthermore she went on to claim that the former Miss Universe and running back were pushing a conservative agenda.
“It’s very clear that this was not a wedding,” Bingham said at the end of her video. “This was a conservative campaign, and it wasn’t even well done … You took this disingenuous pick me route that honestly felt more like you were thinking about your narrative than your actual marriage.”
McCaffrey was not impressed. “What an evil thing to post online,” he wrote in the comments. “I hope you can find joy and peace in the world, the way my beautiful wife does.”
Culpo also took to the comments to defend her dress and her stance in a back and forth with Bingham. “Wow what an absolutely evil person you are,” she wrote in a screenshot shared by the creator. “I hope no one ever tears you apart in this way because it’s extremely hurtful. I love this dress and it was everything I ever wanted and more.”
Culpo also returned to the comments to clarify another one of the creator’s claims — which was that she lied about getting eyebrow enhancements during her wedding day. “Also, no I do not have eyebrow lamination or lash extensions. I’m sorry that infuriates you.”
Culpo and McCaffrey tied the knot over the weekend during a romantic ceremony in the model’s hometown of Rhode Island. The model took to Instagram to celebrate her big day and her dream dress with a series of photos. “One more for the dress of my dreams,” she wrote. “Thank you @dolcegabbana for executing my vision perfectly. I cried the first time I tried it on. From the very first sketch, this was it for me. My dream dress. 🥹🤍.”
In 2022, prior to their dreamy 2023 engagement, Culpo gushed about the NFL superstar to ET. “He’s just the best, I feel like he is really everything that I could ever ask for,” she said at the time. “So I never have to worry about anything.”
