Recently, the Frente Cívico legislative bloc introduced a bill aimed at establishing a program to combat online gambling addiction. Their primary goal is to repeal the existing law that permits online gaming.
The bloc has pointed out that online gambling is a form of addiction. They believe this proposed program will comprehensively address both the preventive and reparative aspects of the negative impacts associated with gambling. The aim is to protect and ensure the health rights of children and adolescents in the province of Córdoba.
If the bill is approved, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education in the province will oversee the implementation of this new legislation. Furthermore, the bill mandates that these ministries produce reports on the impacts and statistics related to the program to assess its effectiveness.
The proposed law will need to be regulated within ninety days following its publication.
In justifying their initiative, the Frente Cívico emphasized the urgent need to protect children from the dangers of gambling. They noted that while many adults may be affected, it is crucial to impose limits to safeguard younger individuals who lack the capacity to understand the harmful consequences of gambling.
The bloc expressed the necessity of not only addressing existing issues but also working on preventive measures. They highlighted the importance of creating new strategies while reinforcing those already in place.
Moreover, the Frente Cívico proposed that this comprehensive approach should involve all segments of society. This includes families, civil organizations, health professionals, educational institutions, and anyone who can contribute to combating gambling addiction.
As part of their opposition strategy, the Frente Cívico is advocating for the repeal of Law 10.973, which allows online gambling. To ensure a thorough examination of the issue, the bloc, led by Walter Nostrala, plans to focus their discussions in the unicameral committee before making any definitive moves.
