Dad Speaks Out on Diddy and Assault Footage

Jake Porter, the father of the late Kim Porter, has expressed his deep revulsion after viewing a video showing Sean “Diddy” Combs violently assaulting his former partner, Cassie Ventura. The footage, which recently surfaced, depicts Diddy shoving, kicking, and dragging Cassie in a hotel hallway, leaving many, including Jake Porter, in shock.

In a phone interview with Rolling Stone, Jake Porter, 78, shared his reaction to the disturbing video. “I was disgusted with the video, and I wouldn’t treat my enemy like that,” he said. The footage, obtained by CNN, has left Porter questioning what his daughter might have endured during her relationship with Diddy before her untimely death from lobar pneumonia in 2018.

Porter, who lived with or near his daughter during various periods of her relationship with Diddy, admitted that he never witnessed such extreme violence firsthand. However, the video has given him a new perspective on the music mogul. “It made me wonder,” he said. “I didn’t know he could stoop that low. I imagine it surprised a lot of people. I wouldn’t even do a dog like that. My heart goes out to Cassie.”

Despite his reluctance to delve into many details, Porter emphasized that his daughter genuinely loved Diddy, though she found it impossible to live with him due to his jealousy. “They both loved each other. Kim’s love was legitimate. Puffy’s love, I don’t know what he calls love, you know what I mean? I really don’t think he has any idea what love is,” Porter remarked. His primary concern now is for his grandchildren.

The resurfaced video has reignited discussions about Diddy’s past behavior. Rolling Stone’s six-month investigation into Combs, which included interviews with over 50 people, painted a picture of a volatile, physically aggressive, and controlling individual. The investigation followed a lawsuit filed by Cassie Ventura last November, accusing Diddy of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and rape. Although Diddy settled with Ventura within 24 hours, additional lawsuits have since emerged.

Diddy has acknowledged the incident captured in the hotel surveillance video, offering a public apology. “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you gotta do that,” he said on social media. “I was fucked up, I mean I hit rock bottom, and I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, and I’m disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help. Had to go into therapy, go into rehab, had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”

Diddy’s lawyer, Jonathan Davis, has refrained from commenting on the pending litigation and new allegations, stating, “Mr. Combs cannot comment on settled litigation, will not comment on pending litigation, and cannot address every allegation picked up by the press from any source, no matter how unreliable. We are aware that the proper authorities are conducting a thorough investigation and therefore have confidence any important issues will be addressed in the proper forum, where the rules distinguish facts from fiction.”

Kim Porter and Diddy met while working at Uptown Records and began dating in 1994. Their relationship was tumultuous, with sources claiming that Diddy was physically abusive. Former Bad Boy rapper Mark Curry recalled, “I remember Kim used to go through a lot of stuff. If you live around them, you get to see the toxic relationship. I think every relationship he had that I experienced around him was like that.”

Kim herself described Diddy as “very, very intrusive” in a 2007 interview with Essence. She recounted how, despite Diddy’s public relationship with Jennifer Lopez, he would still call her “50, 60 times a day.” “It was like my life was not my own,” she said.

Kim attempted to move on, even starting a romance with the late music executive Shakir Stewart. However, Diddy allegedly reacted violently, breaking a chair over Stewart’s head during a wedding in Italy. Stewart’s mother, Portia, recounted, “He left him bleeding on a hotel floor in Italy. He had to have stitches and then [Combs] threatened him … ‘I’m going to kill you.’ That’s when I said you need to get out of this business. This man is crazy.”

Kim eventually reunited with Diddy but ended their romantic relationship for good in 2007 after discovering he had fathered a child with another woman while she was pregnant with their twin daughters.

Cassie Ventura’s husband, Alex Fine, also spoke out after the video surfaced, condemning Diddy’s actions. “Men who hit women aren’t men,” he wrote in a statement. “Men who enable it and protect those people aren’t men. As men, violence against women shouldn’t be inevitable. Check your brothers, your friends, and your family. To all the women and children, I’m sorry you live in a world where you’re not protected, and you don’t feel equal.”

Fine and Ventura married in 2019 and have two children together. The video has only reinforced the disturbing allegations Ventura made in her lawsuit against Diddy, which included claims of rape and forced sexual acts.

Ventura’s attorney, Douglas Wigdor, praised her courage in coming forward. “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs,” he said. “Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”

Diddy has denied all allegations of sexual assault, stating, “Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family, and for the truth.”
