Diego Cavalotti has officially addressed his departure from Lacuna Coil, a band he joined in 2016 as a fill-in guitarist after Marco “Maus” Biazzi left. In a heartfelt message shared on social media today, Cavalotti expressed his thoughts and feelings about leaving the band.
“Good morning everyone,” he began. “I want to share with all of you this post regarding my departure from the band. Yes, I am no longer part of Lacuna Coil.”
Cavalotti clarified that his decision wasn’t driven by dissatisfaction or a desire to explore new opportunities. Instead, he accepted it peacefully, reflecting on nearly a decade of wonderful experiences with the band. He emphasized that his departure would allow Lacuna Coil to continue its journey without him.
“I wish Maki, Andrea, Cristina, and Richard the greatest success and satisfaction,” he wrote. “I thank them for the huge wealth of experience gained over all these years, always side by side.”
He also extended his gratitude to friends, fans, and fellow artists for their immense support. “However, this is not the end of anything,” he continued. “One chapter has just been closed, and I am ready to write another one. For me, music is, and remains, my only reason for living, and I will never stop doing what I love, even if that meant going back to playing in garages or in front of anyone.”
Cavalotti expressed his eagerness to see what the future holds and his readiness to evaluate new opportunities. “I will continue to carry out my projects with pride and dedication,” he concluded. “Thank you very much to everyone, see you around.”
Lacuna Coil announced Cavalotti’s exit on Monday, June 17, stating, “As we step into a new cycle, writing and recording our next album, we are parting ways with Diego ‘DD’ Cavallotti. We thank him for the many unforgettable moments shared over the years and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
The band assured fans that all future live plans remain unchanged and that new songs are taking shape. “We can’t wait to share them with our fans,” they added.
Marco “Maus” Biazzi, whom Cavalotti replaced, left Lacuna Coil in January 2016. At the time, Biazzi explained, “I felt I couldn’t add more to this project any longer, so I decided to leave my second family, Lacuna Coil, to take a different path for a new challenge in my life.”
Lacuna Coil recently completed their “Ignite The Fire” U.S. tour, supported by New Years Day and Oceans of Slumber. In April, they released a new single, “In The Mean Time,” featuring Ash Costello of New Years Day. The song’s title references the challenging times the world is facing and the band’s transitional phase between cycles.
Last July, Lacuna Coil released the official lyric video for “Never Dawn,” a new track created in collaboration with CMON, the renowned board game publisher behind “Zombicide.” In a recent interview with Brazil’s Sonoridades Inc., Lacuna Coil singer Cristina Scabbia discussed the progress of their upcoming album, a follow-up to 2019’s “Black Anima.”
“I can’t really tell you a lot,” Scabbia said. “I can tell you that we are progressing very fast. We are almost, like, 100%… We completed, let’s say, the demoing. We still have to record the rest of the songs, but we will soon—probably after the tour, after the [May 2024] North American tour. And if everything goes as projected, before the end of the year [it] will be released. And that’s already big news because we always say, ‘We don’t know. Maybe.’ … I absolutely love the songs. I’m part of the process. But I’m very pleased.”
When asked if “Never Dawn” would be on the upcoming album, Scabbia responded, “I think it will be. I think it will be because it will make sense. And it also fits with the other songs—it really fits with the other songs. Many heavy songs.”
Lacuna Coil has spent the last couple of years promoting “Comalies XX,” a “deconstructed” and “transported” version of their third album, “Comalies.” “Comalies XX” was released on October 14, 2022, via Century Media Records. The band celebrated the 20th anniversary of “Comalies” by performing it in its entirety at a one-night-only concert on October 15, 2022, at Fabrique in Milano.
Originally released on October 29, 2002, “Comalies” featured the band’s breakthrough single “Heaven’s A Lie” and has reportedly sold over 300,000 copies in the United States alone.
