Dita Von Teese: ‘I Haven’t Found the Right Time to Start a Family’

Dita Von Teese has revealed that she "never found the right moment" to start a family. The 51-year-old burlesque star admitted that she missed the opportunity to have children because she was too focused on her career. Now, she expresses concern about potentially regretting that decision in the future.

In an interview with The Times, Dita shared her perspective: "I was doing something that no one had been famous for since Gypsy Rose Lee, so I thought I had to keep going. I never thought it was the right time to take a break."

She also sought advice from her colleague Mamie Van Doren, who is 93 years old. Mamie, who has a beloved son, told Dita, "Don’t be swayed by the idea that [motherhood] is something that is expected of you." Dita reflected on the possibility of regretting her choice, saying, "Maybe one day I will say I made a huge mistake by not having kids, but I just don’t know."

Dita has been in a relationship with graphic designer Adam Rajcevich for the last decade. However, she is firm in her decision never to marry again after her tumultuous union with rocker Marilyn Manson, which ended in divorce in 2007. She expressed, "I’ve never had much luck in love. I have a reputation for not being a role model for healthy, long-lasting relationships. I remember thinking at my wedding: this is all a spectacle. I understand why people want their big day and the beautiful dress, but I feel like I can do that every night on stage."

In previous interviews, she admitted that she believed her marriage to Manson negatively impacted their relationship. She recalled feeling pressured to go through with the wedding because they had a deal with Vogue for the photoshoot. During an appearance on Khloé Kardashian’s show, "Kocktails With Khloé," Dita stated, "I feel like getting married was like the kiss of death for us; it was like the nail in the coffin. I felt obligated to hold the ceremony because there was so much at stake, like Vogue photographing it in a castle. I thought, ‘Oh, well.’"

This candid discussion sheds light on Dita’s journey, revealing her struggles with love, career, and family planning. Though she may have missed some milestones, she is focused on embracing her current life and the choices she has made.
