Dragon Ball Daima to Debut, New Anime from the Renowned Franchise

Dragon Ball Daima is set to premiere in just a few months, but some fans of the franchise remain skeptical. A portion of the audience is disappointed with the new anime and would have preferred to see the long-awaited continuation of Dragon Ball Super instead.

Adding to the skepticism, there are those who believe that Daima bears too much resemblance to Dragon Ball GT, a series many fans do not consider canon. This similarity stems from the fact that both series depict Goku returning to his childhood, embarking on numerous adventures across various locations.

Akio Iyoku, a producer for the franchise, is aware that these comparisons are unavoidable. He has taken the time to explain how Daima will differ from GT and what measures have been taken to distinguish the two series.

In recent statements, Akira Toriyama, the creator of the franchise, expressed that Dragon Ball Daima is a very special project, marking the 40th anniversary of the beloved anime and manga series. He highlighted one of the production’s goals: to introduce the franchise to a new audience who may not be familiar with Goku and his companions. Toriyama also mentioned that the anime will resolve some lingering mysteries within the saga, although he did not address the similarities with Dragon Ball GT.

Iyoku reassured fans who are concerned about these similarities. He promised that Daima will offer a new narrative that adds to the franchise. He encouraged followers not to be overly worried and to enjoy the anime once it becomes available. He chose not to reveal additional details to avoid spoiling any surprises for the audience.

“I understand that seeing Goku as a child might lead you to think of GT. Many people might wonder, ‘Is Goku young again, like in [GT]?’ We want to emphasize that this is a completely different story,” he said.

“We would like everyone to think about it and form their own ideas about the story. However, with today’s first trailer, we want to keep everything under wraps so everyone can enjoy and speculate about it,” the producer concluded.
