Eddie Murphy is eager to team up with Martin Lawrence for a remake of the classic film “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,” and fans are buzzing with excitement. The two comedy legends, who have shared the screen in the past, are looking to bring their unique chemistry to this ambitious project.
Murphy revealed his plans during the red carpet premiere of his latest film, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” Speaking with ET, he expressed his enthusiasm for the remake and his long-standing friendship with Lawrence. “I got this other idea for something with Martin. I’ve been developing it for years,” Murphy said. “Did you ever see a movie ‘It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World’? Well, I got a script; it will be delivered any minute now, written by Jez Butterworth, and I’m trying to do a remake of that movie.”
The original 1963 film, directed by Stanley Kramer, is a beloved comedy that follows a group of strangers in a wild chase for a stolen suitcase full of money. Known for its star-studded cast, the film featured comedy icons like Spencer Tracy, Buddy Hackett, Jonathan Winters, and Milton Berle. Murphy aims to assemble a similarly impressive ensemble for his version. “It’s one of my favorite movies of all time, and if I do it, if the script turns out right, it’s going to be a cast of all the who’s who of comedians. Anybody who has been funny over the last 30 years is going to be in this movie,” he added.
The prospect of seeing Murphy and Lawrence together again is thrilling for fans. The duo previously starred in “Boomerang” (1992) and “Life” (1999), both of which showcased their comedic talents and on-screen chemistry. Murphy’s vision for the remake includes a diverse and talented cast, potentially featuring names like Larry David, Kevin Hart, Wanda Sykes, Ramy Youssef, and Kate McKinnon.
While the project is still in development, the excitement surrounding it is palpable. Remakes can be hit or miss, but with Murphy and Lawrence at the helm, this one has the potential to be a comedic masterpiece. Fans are eagerly awaiting more news and hoping the project gets the green light soon.
