A man identified as Segundo Galo Céspedes has been sentenced to nine months of preventive imprisonment for the alleged crime of femicide against his ex-partner. This decision was made by the Second Provincial Criminal Prosecutor’s Office of Ferreñafe after a hearing that involved a judge and the support of the National Police of Peru.
The tragic incident took place on July 11 in the rural community of La Manchuria, located in the Batangrande annex of the Pítipo district. The man’s ex-partner’s family reported that the attack occurred after she filed a claim for child support against him.
According to the Public Ministry, the investigation revealed that the accused had subjected the victim to physical and psychological abuse on multiple occasions. Provincial prosecutor Analy Fátima Vásquez Llanos presented evidence supporting the request for preventive imprisonment, citing the accused’s violent behavior towards his ex-partner, including attempted forcible entry into her home.
The aim of this decision is to prevent the accused from evading the legal process against him. Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate to clarify all details related to this femicide case.
The victim was found lifeless near the La Leche River in Manchuria, Batangrande, within the Lambayeque region. Signs of violence were evident, according to the police report. The femicide, which has shocked the local community, came to light when authorities discovered the woman’s body. Initial investigations indicated that the remains had been abandoned 12 to 16 hours prior to their discovery.
Forensic experts from the Criminal Investigation Division (Divincri) conducted the investigations and isolated the crime scene. The Public Ministry handled the recovery of the body, which was taken to the Chiclayo Central Morgue for the necessary autopsy.
Family members of the victim identified her ex-partner as the presumed perpetrator, noting that they shared a child. They reported that she had sued the man for not paying child support and had received protective measures since 2019 due to previous incidents of violence.
The main suspect was arrested when he approached the police station seeking protection against the accusations made by the victim’s relatives, who held him responsible for the murder.

Official data indicates that 93 women were killed during this period, averaging nearly one victim every two days. Additionally, there were 106 attempted femicides, highlighting the ongoing prevalence of this crime in the country.
