Styx and Foreigner are set to embark on an exciting summer tour in 2024, bringing their iconic rock sounds to fans across North America. The tour, aptly named “Renegades & Juke Box Heroes,” will also feature special guest John Waite, adding an extra layer of nostalgia and rock excellence to the lineup.
The tour kicks off on June 11, 2024, at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This opening night promises to be a spectacular start, with each band delivering a setlist packed with their greatest hits. John Waite will open the show, performing an eight-song set that includes classics from his time with the Babys, as well as solo hits like “Missing You” and “When I See You Smile.”
Following Waite, Foreigner will take the stage, delivering a hit-packed set that spans their illustrious career. Fans can expect to hear timeless tracks such as “Double Vision,” “Cold as Ice,” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.” The band’s performance is sure to be a highlight, with lead vocalist Kelly Hansen bringing his powerful voice to the forefront.
Styx will close out the night with a 13-song set that showcases their enduring appeal. The setlist will feature songs from their classic albums “The Grand Illusion” and “Paradise Theatre,” including fan favorites like “Come Sail Away,” “Renegade,” and “Blue Collar Man.” With Lawrence Gowan on vocals and Tommy Shaw’s energetic guitar work, Styx’s performance is set to be a memorable experience for all in attendance.
The tour will continue through the summer, with stops at major venues across the United States and Canada. Highlights include performances at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, the Budweiser Stage in Toronto, and the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The tour will wrap up on August 28, 2024, at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Tickets for the tour go on sale on Friday, December 8, with additional pre-sale information available on the Foreigner and Styx websites. Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets early, as this tour is expected to draw large crowds eager to relive the magic of these legendary rock bands.
In a recent interview, Kelly Hansen expressed his excitement about touring with Styx again, noting the professionalism and camaraderie between the two bands. “We always look forward to being with our buddies in Styx,” Hansen said. “They’re absolute professionals, which is what you want. You want to be on the road with someone you can count on.”
Tommy Shaw of Styx echoed Hansen’s sentiments, promising fans “a hell of a night of classic rock music.” Shaw reminisced about his first exposure to Foreigner’s music and expressed his admiration for their enduring hits. “When I finally got to see them live, I thought, ‘Man, this is somebody that we can hopefully eventually work with.’ It’s so nice that the music still lives and we can all go on these kinds of tours.”
This tour also marks a significant chapter in Foreigner’s ongoing farewell tour, which was announced in 2022. Hansen admitted that the farewell tour has been an emotional journey, balancing the desire to stop extensive touring with the recognition of the band’s impact and legacy. “It’s been a little bit of an emotional roller coaster,” Hansen said. “There’s also a level of recognition about what we’ve done and what we’re doing – and the gratitude and understanding of what it’s meant for us in our lives.”
Both Styx and Foreigner are also working on new music, ensuring that their creative output continues alongside their touring schedules. Shaw mentioned that Styx is always writing new songs, often inspired by their experiences on the road. “We’ve gone out and played and played and have had a chance to have these little nuggets come out,” Shaw said. “Now we have a list of them, and we’re going to start fleshing them out and getting them recorded.”
Foreigner’s path to new music is a bit more complex, given their extensive touring schedule. Hansen noted that the band has many songs in various stages of completion and hopes to finish them soon. “We’ve written and worked on and been in the studio and been on the road and written on the road and written off the road,” Hansen said. “A lot of those things sometimes, because we tour so much, it’s very hard to get everybody together to finish something.”
As the “Renegades & Juke Box Heroes” tour approaches, fans can look forward to an unforgettable summer of classic rock. With Styx, Foreigner, and John Waite sharing the stage, this tour promises to be a celebration of timeless music and enduring talent.
