Excitement is building as production for Season 2 of the “Frasier” revival is in full swing, with Peri Gilpin confirmed to return. Gilpin, who portrayed Roz Doyle in the original series, made a guest appearance in the first season finale of the revival. Now, she is set to appear multiple times in the upcoming season as a recurring guest star. Additionally, James Burrows will be back to direct two episodes, continuing his involvement from the first season.
Gilpin isn’t the only familiar face making a comeback. Bebe Neuwirth, who played Lilith Sternin on “Cheers” and the original “Frasier,” returned in the seventh episode of the revival. The new season promises even more nostalgia with the return of Dan Butler as Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe and Edward Hibbert as Gil Chesterton. Both actors will guest star in Season 2, adding to the excitement for long-time fans.
The revival series follows Frasier Crane, played by Kelsey Grammer, as he returns to Boston to be closer to his son, Freddy, portrayed by Jack Cutmore-Scott. Frasier takes up a teaching position at Harvard after his talk show in Chicago is canceled. The cast also includes Nicholas Lyndhurst, Toks Olagundoye, Jess Salgueiro, and Anders Keith, who bring fresh dynamics to the beloved series.
Created by writers Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli, who also serve as showrunners and executive producers, the series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Grammer’s Grammnet NH Productions. Paramount Global Content Distribution handles the series outside of Paramount+ markets.
In a previous interview, Grammer expressed his optimism about the show’s future, stating, “There’s enough groundwork laid between these human beings; they are wonderful characters. I want to see where they go. And I want to see what happens to Frasier.”
Paramount+ announced the renewal of the revival series in February 2024, much to the delight of fans. The streaming service shared a video of Grammer arriving on set on a bicycle, ready to film new episodes. Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President of Programming at Paramount+, praised Grammer’s return, saying, “Kelsey made a triumphant return as one of the most iconic and beloved characters on television.”
Grammer, who also serves as an executive producer, added, “Frasier is a love story, and I am very happy we will be allowed to continue it. I’m delighted that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have in store!”
The first season of the revival saw Frasier returning to Boston, facing new challenges, and forging new relationships. New cast members included Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Frasier’s adult son, and Anders Keith as David, Frasier’s nephew. Grammer noted that Frasier is “a little wiser, he may actually even be a little funnier, willing to laugh at himself. A little more self-aware, and he has a new mission in life.”
As news about Season 2 continues to emerge, fans are eager to see the mix of original cast members and new faces. The returning cast includes Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth, Peri Gilpin, Dan Butler, and Edward Hibbert. Newcomers like Jack Cutmore-Scott, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Toks Olagundoye, Jess Salgueiro, and Anders Keith add fresh energy to the series.
Season 1 ended with Frasier readjusting to life in Boston and trying to be a supportive father to Freddy. The season finale featured a heartwarming moment when Freddy surprised Frasier with Roz’s arrival, helping him cope with the holiday season and the loss of his father, Martin.
Production for Season 2 began in May 2024, and while the premiere date is yet to be announced, fans can stream the first season and the original series on Paramount+. The revival series has successfully introduced Frasier to a new generation while reminding long-time fans of the timeless charm of Dr. Crane.
Stay tuned for more updates on the highly anticipated second season of the “Frasier” revival, as the beloved characters return to our screens with new adventures and heartfelt moments.
