Gaby Spanic recently made headlines after publicly denouncing what she described as discrimination upon her arrival at Mexico City airport. In an Instagram live session, the famous actress expressed her outrage over being fined $600 due to two packs of nicotine-free cigarettes that she brought into the country.
“I smoke nicotine-free cigarettes. I had no idea I would have to pay $600 in taxes for purchasing two packs, especially since they’re not sold here. This feels like theft, an abuse of power,” the Venezuelan actress stated during her broadcast.
Gaby Spanic was issued a fine of $650 at the airport in Mexico, as reported by Mezcalent. She further elaborated on her frustrating experience while speaking to various reporters, detailing the unpleasant situation she encountered.
“I smoke nicotine-free cigarettes, and I was totally unaware that I would face a $600 tax. I was kept waiting for over half an hour, surrounded by various fines. They wanted me to sign numerous papers, but I refused to sign anything without my lawyer,” she explained. Spanic also mentioned feeling discriminated against, alleging a sense of xenophobia targeting her.
She emphasized, “That is discrimination, that is xenophobia. I felt mistreated. There was an abuse of power, an abuse of authority. Some women at customs were making fun of me in a cruel way,” she added.
The actress insisted that her treatment was influenced by her nationality, noting that she witnessed many individuals passing through customs without any issues. “I felt discriminated against for being a foreigner because I saw other foreigners being scrutinized, while Mexican nationals seemed to pass without any goods being checked,” she said. Many of her followers showed support in the comments of her Instagram live session.
In a separate conversation, Gaby Spanic touched on her ideal partner’s qualities. During the show “Desiguales,” she made it clear that she isn’t interested in dating younger men. “I want a man who already has his own place, and I have mine. I love my solitude, my home, and my independence. I don’t want a man telling me, ‘Wear this outfit and take this money.’ I’m very free, and I want a secure partner,” she explained.
Previously, she had mentioned dating someone she described as a “viking” who is 13 years younger than her. She shared that she met this individual while filming the reality show “Secretos de villanas.” “He’s 36, really tall, and like a viking. I said, ‘I want a mature man, like Aquaman,’ and that’s who I ended up with,” she remarked in October 2023.
