García-Gallardo laments PP’s return to “old union privileges,” warns of tough agreements

Juan García-Gallardo, the spokesman for the Vox Parliamentary Group and former president of the Junta, has expressed disappointment over what he describes as “the first major political decision” by the Popular Party (PP) since Vox departed from the regional government. He criticized their recent meeting with labor unions and business organizations, where they announced plans to restore “old union privileges” that had been eliminated during Vox’s time in office.

García-Gallardo referred to a meeting held last Monday by the new Minister of Industry, Leticia García, with unions and employers, where she pledged to work towards halting the eviction of the offices currently occupied by the Serla. The minister emphasized a commitment to fostering “dialogue, negotiation, and agreement” within the framework of Social Dialogue.

The Vox spokesman stated that the party cannot “celebrate this decision.” He expressed that they had hoped the PP would continue the effective policies established during the two years of their coalition government. He pointed out that those policies had led to decreases in unemployment and workplace accidents, and he believes the current plans to restore union privileges are aimed at “buying peace” rather than addressing the needs of workers.

García-Gallardo argued that what some refer to as social dialogue is, in reality, an imposition of the left’s political agenda. He explained that Vox aims to represent a range of organizations across various sectors and not just those affiliated with UGT, CCOO, or CEOE. In contrast, he accused the PP of clinging to outdated and failing policies from the past.

Furthermore, he revealed that Vox has recently extended an olive branch to the PP in hopes of continuing the policies of the coalition government. However, he said that the PP has opted to align itself with the agenda of the Socialist Party (PSOE). As a result, reaching agreements will be challenging, although Vox intends to negotiate each policy point. García-Gallardo warned that if the PP continues to lean towards leftist policies, they may need to negotiate with left-wing parties.
