The team behind the popular soap opera General Hospital has taken a firm stand against racism after their star, Tabyana Ali, revealed she has been subjected to online harassment. The ABC series made a public statement on social media on June 18, emphasizing their zero-tolerance policy towards hatred and bigotry. “General Hospital does not tolerate hatred or bigotry of any kind,” the statement read. “Racism has no place in Port Charles. #GH is for everyone.”
Tabyana Ali, who has portrayed Trina Robinson on the show since 2022, expressed her gratitude for the support from the network. “I appreciate you so much ABC/GH 🥹💕,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Ali had earlier disclosed that she had been receiving racial hate messages on social media. In a heartfelt post on June 9, she addressed her detractors directly. “To anyone that hates me. That’s absolutely fine,” she wrote. “I don’t know you and you don’t [know] me but regardless I’m sending you peace, safety, and prosperity … I also pray you touch some grass, see the sun, eat a delicious meal, and find something to do. Peace and love 💕.”
Following her initial message, Ali elaborated on her stance against engaging with hate. “We cannot be giving it back. We cannot stoop to rude/racist people’s level,” she explained. “It doesn’t help. We are fighting too many wars as it is. I believe we will have our world peace. But we got to find another way to fight. I’ve realized ignoring doesn’t help but neither does giving the energy back. We’re going in circles and that doesn’t get us anywhere. Everybody might not agree with me but that’s okay. I just want to let ‘those’ people know, I see you.”
Ali emphasized the importance of love and positivity in her life. “Life is more beautiful and peaceful when you give people and yourself love,” she noted. She also shared a poignant message for her haters, urging them to reconsider their actions. “I pray you don’t meet God and find yourself disappointed when he shows you the life you could’ve had if all you had to do was stop giving out that type of energy and just went OUTSIDE!” she wrote. “And I’m sorry that this is the way you feel like you have to be seen. I’m sorry that life isn’t happening how you want. But if you found something you loved to do other than hurting people, you would never have the energy to say what you’ve been saying to people ONLINE!”
Ali’s co-stars from General Hospital have also rallied around her, offering their support and admiration. Maura West, who plays Ava Jerome on the show, commented, “I love you, Tabyana. I admire your strength and loving, open heart. You are a shining example of the best of humanity ❤️🌸.” Lydia Look, who portrays Selina Wu, added, “Love! You go sis. Show them what you’re made of. Pure Love, that’s what. ❤️😘❤️💪🏼.”
The outpouring of support for Ali underscores the broader issue of online harassment and racism that many public figures face. General Hospital’s public stance against such behavior sends a strong message that racism and bigotry will not be tolerated, not just within the show’s fictional world of Port Charles, but in the real world as well.
