Goldie Hawn is brimming with excitement about the prospect of making a movie with her famous family. In a recent interview, the beloved actress shared her enthusiasm for a potential project that would bring together her husband, Kurt Russell, and her children, Kate Hudson, Oliver Hudson, and Wyatt Russell.
During an appearance on the “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” podcast, Hawn expressed her heartfelt desire to collaborate with her family on a film. “What I would love, actually — before we all get too old — [it] would be so great to do a movie together,” she said. “Wouldn’t it? It would be so fun and so crazy and oh, my God.”
The idea came up after podcast host Kelly Ripa suggested that Hawn and her family should star in a reality show. Hawn, however, had a different vision. “We might do something with Oliver that is a cartoon, so in other words, we would all be the voices of that,” she explained. “That would be a lot of fun.”
Hawn’s illustrious career in film includes an Oscar win for her role as Toni Simmons in the 1969 film “Cactus Flower.” She was also nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in the 1980 film “Private Benjamin,” where she played Judy Benjamin. More recently, she starred as Mrs. Claus in the Netflix movie “The Christmas Chronicles,” alongside Kurt Russell, who played Santa Claus. The couple reprised their roles in “The Christmas Chronicles 2,” released in 2020, with Oliver Hudson also featuring in the Christmas comedy.
Hawn’s desire to work with her family is driven by a sense of urgency. “What I would love, actually, before we all get, you know, too old, [it] would be so great to do a movie together,” she reiterated during the podcast. “Wouldn’t it? It would be so fun and so crazy and oh my God.”
When asked why such a project hasn’t materialized yet, Hawn explained, “It’s all about a writer. … I have to get permission first from my family.” Ripa humorously suggested that Hawn should host a family party and later reveal that it’s actually the first scene of their new movie. “Here’s how it goes: You tell them you’re having a party for Kurt. What they don’t realize is it’s a party scene for the opening of the movie, so they just all arrive and then after the first scene is shot, surprise, surprise,” Ripa said. “You pitch the idea for the movie and you’ve already got the opening scene in the can. They can’t argue with it. The establishing scene has happened.”
Hawn found the idea amusing but acknowledged the potential chaos. “Oh my god. It’s really true though. It’s a mess. It would be a mess,” she said. However, she also mentioned that they are already working on a potential project together. “We might do something with Oliver that is a cartoon, so in other words, we would all be the voices of that,” she added. “That would be a lot of fun.”
Hawn shares two children, Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, with her ex-husband Bill Hudson. She and Kurt Russell welcomed their son, Wyatt Russell, in 1986. Hawn is also a stepmother to Russell’s eldest son, Boston, from his previous marriage to Season Hubley.
The idea of a family project is not just a whimsical dream for Hawn; it’s a heartfelt wish to create something memorable with her loved ones. As she continues to explore potential projects, fans eagerly await the possibility of seeing this talented family come together on screen.
