Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn, renowned for her roles in classics like “Cactus Flower” and “Private Benjamin,” has expressed her discontent with Los Angeles, citing a series of alarming home break-ins. The 78-year-old actress and her long-time partner, Kurt Russell, are now contemplating a move away from the city they once called home.
During a recent appearance on the SiriusXM podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa,” Hawn revealed that their Los Angeles residence had been targeted by burglars twice within a span of four months. The first incident occurred while the couple was out for dinner, and the second while Hawn was alone at home with her dog.
“LA is terrible,” Hawn lamented, recounting the distressing events. She and Russell have been exploring safer alternatives, with Palm Desert emerging as a potential new home due to its perceived safety.
Hawn detailed the first break-in, explaining that the intruders had gained access through a balcony door, which was supposed to be secure. They ransacked the couple’s bedroom and closets, making off with valuable items. Fortunately, the couple was not home at the time, sparing them from a direct confrontation.
However, the second incident was even more harrowing. Hawn was at home when she heard a loud noise from another room. It was later discovered that the burglars had attempted to break into her bedroom while she was inside the house. This close call prompted the couple to hire a security guard to ensure their safety, especially when Hawn is alone.
The rise in property crimes in Los Angeles has been a growing concern for many residents. Recent statistics from the Los Angeles Police Department indicate a 3.5% increase in such crimes. Despite efforts by city officials to address the issue, many Angelenos, including Hawn, feel increasingly unsafe.
Hawn and Russell’s relationship dates back to their first meeting on the set of the 1966 film “The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band.” Although they didn’t start dating until 1983, they have now been together for over 40 years. The couple has one biological son, Wyatt Russell, who has followed in his parents’ footsteps into the entertainment industry.
As the couple contemplates their next move, Hawn’s candid remarks about the deteriorating safety in Los Angeles resonate with many who share similar concerns. The allure of Hollywood’s bright lights seems to be dimming for those who prioritize safety and peace of mind over the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown.
