Google Play Store adds a tab for easy access to manga and anime content

Google has revamped Google Play by introducing a new feature called ‘Collections.’ This addition organizes various similar apps based on their purpose, including a dedicated section for manga and anime titles.

The platform has updated its services to deliver a more intuitive and personalized experience, making it easier for users to explore the range of applications and games available in its ‘eShop.’ Recently, Google has focused on improving the types of app recommendations provided in the Play Store. To enhance this capability, they’ve created a feature that offers a selection of categories for users to choose from, helping to fine-tune the app recommendation algorithm.

Furthermore, Google Play is set to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) functionalities, such as automatically organized comparisons of apps that share similarities. The ‘Collections’ feature, as reported by outlets like 9to5Google, is currently available to users in the United States and expands the options on Google Play by presenting a menu of various categories. These include ‘Watch,’ ‘Listen,’ ‘Play,’ ‘Read,’ and more, each showcasing a curated selection of relevant apps and content that users have recently interacted with.

According to reports, Google plans to introduce more categories within the Collections feature, which already has its own widget for quick access. Upcoming categories may include ‘Sports,’ ‘Travel and Events,’ ‘Health and Fitness,’ and ‘Dating.’ It’s important to note that to utilize Collections, developers will need to integrate the Engage SDK announced during Google I/O 2024, which took place in May.

Another significant addition to the Google Play update is ‘Curated Spaces.’ This feature compiles content based on user preferences, including a ‘Comics’ section featuring thousands of manga and anime titles. Currently, this section is exclusive to users in Japan, positioned prominently at the top of the interface, situated between ‘For You’ and ‘Top Charts.’

In terms of user control, the Google Play Store will provide greater oversight regarding the data each app collects. Users can manage their settings by accessing their Profile and selecting the ‘Personalization in Play’ option. This allows individuals to disable how Google Play utilizes their information for tailored recommendations and ads related to those apps.

Finally, Google announced that users playing mobile games on PC through Google Play Games will have the ability to open two titles simultaneously, featuring a split-screen layout. This functionality is anticipated to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
