Gypsy Rose Blanchard Describes Pregnancy as Her ‘Second Chance at Life’ After Prison

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who gained national attention for her involvement in the murder of her abusive mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, is now embracing a new chapter in her life. After serving seven years in prison, Gypsy Rose is finding joy and purpose in her pregnancy, which she describes as her “second chance at life.”

On Mother’s Day, Gypsy Rose posted a heartfelt TikTok video, celebrating the maternal figures who have positively impacted her life over the past eight and a half years. She began by explaining her decision to disable comments on the post to avoid negativity. “If you want to talk s— about me, by all means, I don’t give an F. Go do it on your own platform, but I’m not going to see it in my comments,” she stated.

Gypsy Rose acknowledged the complex emotions she experiences on Mother’s Day, given her tumultuous relationship with her biological mother. “It does not go without notice that my own biological mother is not here to celebrate Mother’s Day,” she said. “And what I choose to feel on Mother’s Day regarding my own mother is that I think the best of her. I think about the good times. I think about her as not what she did to me, but I think about her as a person.”

She continued, “Was she a good mom? No. Was she the best mom in the world? No. But she was still my mom. So what I choose to feel about her — whether that be guilt, anger, grief, resentment, whatever — that’s mine to feel. No one can take away my own feelings about my own mother. And I feel like no one should be able to have an opinion about my mother except for her family and me, because we were the people closest to her.”

Gypsy Rose emphasized that other people’s opinions about her mother do not matter to her. When she thinks of her mom, she remembers “the good that was in her heart.” She revealed that she has been learning for years how to forgive her mother and hopes that she is in heaven. “And I hope that, to some degree, I make her proud of at least some of the achievements I’ve made in my life,” she shared.

She also expressed her gratitude to the women who have supported her, including her stepmom, Kristy Blanchard, and her ex-fiancé Ken Urker’s mom. “I know that I’m still learning. And I hope that I continue to try and make you guys proud and show you what I can be,” she said, becoming emotional. “Thank you for loving me in a time that I felt unlovable. And accepting me no matter what because that means everything to me.”

Since her release from prison in December 2023, Gypsy Rose has been active on social media, sharing updates about her life as a free woman. She briefly deleted her TikTok and Instagram accounts in March but returned to TikTok on May 1, debuting her new highlighted blonde hair. Fans welcomed her return, with some commenters noting her resemblance to “a young Jennifer Coolidge.”

Gypsy Rose’s case has been the subject of numerous documentaries and TV specials, including HBO’s “Mommy Dead and Dearest,” Investigation Discovery’s “Gypsy’s Revenge,” Hulu’s “The Act,” and Lifetime’s “Love You To Death.” In 2024, Lifetime released the docuseries “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard,” and another series, “Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up,” premiered in June.

In the second episode of “Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up,” Gypsy Rose opened up about her sexuality and insecurities regarding intimacy. She discussed her feelings before spending the night with her husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, for the first time after her prison release. “A big part of womanhood is learning to be comfortable with their sexuality and for years I wasn’t,” she said. “I’m self-conscious because I have scars all over my body, and I had a lot of surgeries that were unnecessary so I’m like, ‘Am I gonna be what he wants me to be? Am I attractive to him?'”

She also shared that she had questioned her sexuality as a teenager and preteen, feeling attracted to girls and experimenting with that in prison. “I think I’ve kissed more girls than I have guys. I had such big fears that [I wasn’t] going to like sex,” she added.

Gypsy Rose and Anderson separated three months after her release, and she later reunited with her ex-fiancé, Ken Urker. In May 2024, she confirmed that she and Urker were back together.

Gypsy Rose’s journey has been one of resilience and transformation. She has been vocal about her mission to raise awareness about Munchausen syndrome by proxy and mental health. “The choice that I made to commit murder was never the right choice,” she told People. “So my mission now is to take what I’ve done and what [my mom] did and make it worth something. So I think it’s really important for me to get out as much awareness about Munchausen by proxy as I can and really try to focus in on mental health.”

In her first Instagram post following her release, Gypsy Rose shared a mirror selfie with the caption, “First selfie of freedom!” She has also been photographed in public with her husband and shared a photo of them kissing on Instagram.

Gypsy Rose has faced criticism and backlash for her public persona, but she remains committed to her advocacy work. “I’m sorry. I’m learning. I take accountability for my part,” she said in a now-deleted TikTok video. “I did a bad thing. But I’ve also been given a second chance at life. So please give me a little grace. Let my actions match my words, and we’ll go from there.”

She explained that she deleted her Instagram account after a conversation with her father, who advised her to focus on real-life connections. “He gave me some guidance that I feel like it really needed and that guidance was to just show me that real life is something you could touch, something that you would feel, people that you would actually hug,” she said. “And with the public scrutiny as bad as it is. I just don’t want to live my life under a microscope.”

Gypsy Rose concluded, “I do feel regret, but I’m trying to take steps forward.” She plans to keep her TikTok account and has created a new verified Instagram account that is private. “I appreciate all the people that have walked this journey with me,” she said. “But at the end of the day, I’m gonna have to walk away and start living a private life, and that takes steps right? One step at a time.”

Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s story is one of survival, redemption, and hope. As she embarks on this new chapter of her life, she remains focused on her mission to raise awareness and advocate for victims of abuse, all while embracing her second chance at life.
