Halle Bailey received two nominations at the 2024 BET Awards on Sunday. The “Little Mermaid” star stepped out on the red carpet in a backless silhouette, exuding confidence and relishing in a new chapter of her life.
Prior to her red carpet arrival, Bailey spoke with WWD via email about her getting-ready process, including her beauty routine, mental preparation, and the story she wanted to tell with her sartorial statement. She fashioned a black dress by Avellano, and her look was co-styled by Nicole Goodman, alongside Bailey.
“I love this look tonight; it’s very cool and slinky,” Bailey told WWD. The “Color Purple” star added she “was going for an effortlessly sexy look” for the 2024 BET Awards, which featured several cutout dresses on the red carpet.
Bailey wanted to embrace a look that merged “cool and sexy,” she told WWD. “[I] wanted to wear something that makes me feel great in my own skin, especially in this new phase of my life,” she said, adding that she was “excited to be nominated” at the awards show. Bailey welcomed her first child, a son named Halo, in 2023.
Apart from her completed look, Bailey shared the necessary steps she takes for her beauty routine. “Hydrating the week leading up to the appearance is a must,” she said. “I have Core Hydration in hand 24/7. And day-of ice rolling and eye patches.” Core Hydration is purified water balanced with electrolytes and minerals. Bailey and her sister, Chloe, became ambassadors for the brand last February.
The night of the 2024 BET Awards, Bailey’s makeup artist, Chrissy Cassell, took inspiration from the actress and singer’s accessories for a clean makeup look. She wore the Solanales Crystal Chained Spear Earring by Alexis Bittar as part of her jewelry selections for the night.
Her hair was styled in long flowing waves that cascaded down her back. Nominated for both Best Actress and for the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/ Inspirational Award, Bailey wanted to emphasize the joy she felt throughout the evening.
“I just surround myself with loving people, eat a great meal and drink plenty of Core Hydration before and have fun,” Bailey said of her pre-awards show mental prep. “I’m excited to be nominated tonight, so I’m just gonna have fun.”
The BET Awards celebrate achievements in entertainment, honoring excellence in music, sports, television, and movies. Taraji P. Henson hosted the 2024 event, which featured performances by Ice Spice, Tyla, GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, Victoria Monét, and more.
