Heather Morris is “surprised” by the depth of her pain over Naya Rivera’s death. The 37-year-old actress starred alongside Naya in the popular musical drama series, ‘Glee.’ On the fourth anniversary of Naya’s passing, which occurred when she was just 33 years old, Heather took to social media to pay tribute to her friend.
Sharing a heartfelt black-and-white photo of them embracing, Heather reflected on Instagram, “I can’t believe it’s been 4 years… how time flies. Yet every year I’m astonished by how much it still hurts. We grew up together, drifted apart, and came back together in such a beautiful way. God, we miss you so much… but I can’t shake the feeling that you never left… you’re still here with us… guiding us toward our highest potential. I miss you, Nay Nay.”
Naya is survived by her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey, 40, and their eight-year-old son, Josey. At the time of the tragic accident, they had been on a boating trip at Lake Piru, not far from their home in California. Naya and Josey had briefly gone for a swim in the lake, but due to strong winds, they returned to the boat. While Naya managed to bring her son back to safety, she unfortunately lacked the strength to rescue herself.
Last May, Ryan shared how he and Josey honored Naya on Mother’s Day. In an interview with E! News, he reminisced, “When Josey was little, he loved butterflies and going to the butterfly garden at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Last year, we released a bunch of butterflies in honor of Naya while FaceTiming with Grandma. He let them go and said, ‘Happy Mother’s Day in heaven, Mommy!’ It was both heartbreaking and sweet at the same time.”
