CHESHIRE, Mass. — Hoosac Valley High School has proudly announced Talia Rehill and David Scholz as the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2024. The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 7, at 6 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
Talia Rehill, daughter of Alisha Hampton of Cheshire, has been a dynamic presence at Hoosac Valley throughout her high school years. She has held numerous leadership roles, including president of the Student Council, the Adams-Cheshire Leo Club, the class of 2024, and the National Honor Society. Additionally, she served as a student representative on the Athletic Leadership Council and the Rainbow Alliance. Rehill was also a peer leader for the World of Difference program and a pride mentor for the Boomerang Project. Her contributions extend to being the editor of the yearbook and founding the Hoosac Valley chapter of the 84th Movement, a non-smoking initiative.
Rehill’s involvement in sports is equally impressive. She captained both the varsity soccer and track and field teams. Her extracurricular activities include participating in the 2023 production of “Annie,” raising funds for childhood cancer as a princess with the AYJ Fund, and creating a social networking platform for individuals experiencing homelessness. Her accolades include the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award, the National Honor Society’s Student of the Year for Massachusetts, the College Board Big Future’s award for rural and small-town recognition, and the American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State Award.
Rehill is set to become the second Hoosac Valley graduate to attend Harvard University, where she plans to study government on a pre-law track.
David Scholz, son of Erik and Laura Scholz of Adams, has also made significant contributions to the school community. He has served as vice president of the class of 2024 and has been an active member of the Student Council, the Athletic Leadership Council, and the National Honor Society. Scholz has also been a dedicated member of the concert and marching bands.
In sports, Scholz has excelled, earning first-team All-Western Mass honors for soccer in his senior year and Nordic skiing as a junior. He captained the varsity soccer team and was a member of the school’s ski and track and field teams. Scholz also volunteered as a coach with the Adams-Cheshire-Savoy Youth Soccer League and has been a member of the Downhill Ski Club since eighth grade.
Scholz plans to attend the University of New Hampshire, where he will major in electrical engineering.
The achievements of Rehill and Scholz reflect their dedication, leadership, and commitment to both their academic and extracurricular pursuits. Their recognition as valedictorian and salutatorian is a testament to their hard work and the support of their families and the Hoosac Valley community.
