Starz has announced exciting new additions to the cast of its upcoming series “Spartacus: House of Ashur,” the latest installment in the popular “Spartacus” universe. Leading the new cast members is Graham McTavish, known for his roles in “Outlander,” “The Witcher,” and “House of the Dragon.” McTavish will portray Ashur’s Doctore, a seasoned trainer of gladiators, bringing his formidable presence to the series.
Joining McTavish is Tenika Davis, who will play the first female gladiator in the “Spartacus” universe. Her character is described as a fierce warrior determined to surpass her male counterparts and earn her freedom. This groundbreaking role is set to add a new dynamic to the series, highlighting the strength and resilience of female gladiators.
The cast also includes Jamaica Vaughan as Hilara, a young house slave deeply in love with Ashur. Ivana Baquero, known for her role in “The Shannara Chronicles,” will play Messia, a house slave in love with Hilara. Jordi Webber joins as Tarchon, a brash and headstrong gladiator, while Claudia Black will portray Cossutia, a politician constantly plotting Ashur’s downfall. India Shaw-Smith will play Viridia, Cossutia’s daughter, and Leigh Gill will appear as Satyrus, the leader of the Brothers Ferox, a group of rival gladiators.
Nick Tarabay, who previously appeared in “Spartacus,” will also return to the series, with production currently underway in New Zealand. The new cast members are expected to bring fresh energy and depth to the series, continuing the legacy of intense drama and action that “Spartacus” fans have come to love.
In addition to “House of Ashur,” Starz has also announced several other new and returning series. One of the highlights is “Sweetpea,” a new drama starring and executive produced by Ella Purnell. Purnell plays Rhiannon Lewis, a young woman whose life is turned upside down, leading her to embrace a new, intoxicating power. The six-part series, based on the novel by C.J. Skuse, will premiere in 2024 on Starz in the U.S. and Canada.
Starz is also launching “Fat Joe Talks,” a 30-minute series hosted by the hip-hop star Fat Joe. The show will feature conversations on a wide range of newsworthy topics, with Fat Joe traveling across the United States to meet cultural icons in their environments. The series is produced by Embassy Row, with Fat Joe, LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Philip Byron, Jamal Henderson, and Michael Davies serving as executive producers.
Another highly anticipated series is “Three Women,” a limited event series based on the book by Lisa Taddeo. The series stars Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise, Shailene Woodley, Blair Underwood, Gabrielle Creevy, and Jason Ralph. It offers a nuanced portrait of female desire through the raw and honest stories of three women. The series is set to premiere on September 13 on Starz.
