Hugo Rodallega on Juanpis González’s show that upset Bucaramanga fans: “Don’t be offended, it was a moment of humor”

Following the first-semester final between Santa Fe and Bucaramanga on June 15, 2024, fans have been buzzing about the match that crowned Bucaramanga as champions for the first time in their history. Even after 39 days, discussions around this historic event continue.

Recently, during an episode of The Juanpis Live Show, a segment titled Rodallega and His Oedipus Complex featured a comedic moment where the host presented a Bucaramanga jersey with the number 11 and Rodallega’s surname on it. The reaction from Hugo Rodallega was one of surprise and irritation. He reacted by tossing the jersey onto a couch, reminding everyone that Bucaramanga had triumphed over Santa Fe in the final through a penalty shootout.

After Rodallega’s reaction during the show, criticism and commentary surfaced quickly. The former Wigan, Fulham, Denizlispor, and Bahia player felt compelled to address the situation. He took to Instagram, stating, "First of all, I want to apologize to the Bucaramanga fans and the club for what happened during the Juanpis show. Please do not take offense; it was a moment of humor in a program known for its sarcasm."

He further clarified, “Whether you believe it or not, I know your city well and at one point was very close to wearing your jersey. Don’t confuse things; the final is in the past, and I even congratulated you on TV back then.” Rodallega explained how the jersey was a gift from Argentine midfielder Fabián Sambueza, expressing that he cherishes it just as he does the one from Sambueza. He emphasized that it was never his intention to offend anyone, concluding with a message of peace and love for Bucaramanga.

Alejandro Riaño, the comedian, also offered his apologies via social media, acknowledging the awkwardness of the situation that arose from the incident.
