Art collector Mana Jalalian has created a stunning sanctuary in her Dubai loft apartment, a space that not only showcases her extensive collection of contemporary art but also serves as a reflection of her vibrant personality and life experiences. With breathtaking views of the city skyline framed by floor-to-ceiling windows, her home is a true exhibition space, filled with over 400 pieces of art from around the globe, particularly from her beloved Iran.
Mana’s journey into the world of art collecting began modestly, but as her appreciation for art deepened, so did her collection. “Each work represents a moment, a memory, and a piece of the world’s heritage,” she explains. Born in Canada and raised in Iran, Mana’s life has been a tapestry of diverse cultural experiences. After leaving Iran at the age of 19, she lived in Canada and Azerbaijan before settling in Dubai, where she has embraced the city’s dynamic international art scene.
Her loft apartment, located in the lush Al Barari neighborhood, is a testament to her professional talents as an interior designer. The space is a harmonious blend of bold, colorful, and maximalist design, featuring an eclectic mix of furniture from renowned brands like Baxter Italia and Moissonnier. Mana has established a flourishing showroom for Moissonnier in Dubai, showcasing the brand’s unique pieces that have influenced her taste over the years.
The living room is a focal point of the apartment, with a visually stunning kitchen that serves as a centerpiece for social gatherings. Designed for entertaining, this kitchen features a large marble counter and is devoid of appliances, as actual cooking takes place in a separate kitchen at the back. This design choice reflects Mana’s love for hosting and creating a welcoming environment for friends and family.
Among the many artworks displayed in her home, two pieces hold a special significance for Mana. One of her favorites is a painting by Iranian artist Mohammad Ehsaei, executed in striking red calligraphy on a black canvas. This piece symbolizes her enduring friendship with the artist and her deep passion for art, which occupies a central place in her life.
Mana’s commitment to art extends beyond her personal collection. She is a strong advocate for Iranian artists, believing in the power of art to break down cultural barriers. “Exhibiting these pieces has been a mission driven by a deep belief in the power of art to bring people’s hearts together,” she states. Her efforts to showcase Iranian art on an international stage aim to counter the silence that followed the post-revolutionary period in Iran.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Mana is deeply involved in humanitarian projects. As a director of the Omid Foundation, she supports Persian-speaking women in Iran and Afghanistan, empowering them through education. Her philanthropic commitments reflect her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others, particularly women and children facing challenges.
Mana’s personal journey has not been without its struggles. She has faced significant challenges, including a divorce and a battle with cancer. Through it all, she has maintained a positive outlook on life, crediting practices like yoga and meditation for helping her navigate these difficult times. “They’ve helped me face challenges with strength and a positive mindset,” she shares.
Living with her beloved Persian cat, Mangool, Mana finds companionship and joy in her furry friend. While she does not have children of her own, she describes Mangool as a source of endless love and comfort, making her apartment feel like a true home.
As a prominent figure in Dubai’s social scene, Mana actively participates in events like Art Dubai, the leading international art fair in the Middle East. These occasions allow her to connect with fellow art enthusiasts and celebrate her passion for art with a diverse community.
Mana Jalalian’s Dubai loft apartment is more than just a living space; it is a vibrant reflection of her life, her passions, and her commitment to art and humanitarian efforts. With its stunning views, eclectic design, and extensive art collection, her home stands as a testament to the power of creativity and the importance of cultural exchange.
