Inside Out 2 Takes $295M Breaks Box-Office Records in Disney Boost

“Inside Out 2” has taken the world by storm, raking in an impressive $295 million at the global box office over the weekend. This record-breaking performance has given Disney a significant boost as the summer blockbuster season begins.

According to Disney, the film earned $155 million in the US alone, contributing to its $295 million worldwide total. This achievement marks the biggest opening for an animated movie when considering current exchange rates and comparable markets.

In fact, “Inside Out 2” has outperformed “The Super Mario Bros Movie” in its debut and has secured the title of the biggest worldwide opening weekend of the year, as reported by Deadline.

Latin America showed immense support for “Inside Out 2,” contributing $61 million to the film’s total earnings across the region. Disney also noted that “The Incredibles 2,” released in 2018, was the only Pixar film to perform better in the US during its opening weekend.

The first “Inside Out,” released in the summer of 2015, made $90 million in its opening weekend and went on to achieve a global total of $858 million.

Shawn Robbins, a film and theatrical consultant, expressed his excitement on X last week, stating, “Disney and Pixar are back, and so is the summer box office.” This statement came after Disney announced that “Inside Out 2” had made $13 million from domestic previews.

Disney shares saw a 1% increase, reaching approximately $101 in premarket trading, following the film’s strong debut.

The success of “Inside Out 2” comes at a time when streaming services have made it more challenging for theaters to draw audiences. Universal’s “The Fall Guy,” which was anticipated to be a summer blockbuster, fell short of expectations upon its release last month.

Additionally, last year’s Hollywood strikes have complicated release schedules for studios this year. This will also be the first year since 2009 that Disney will not debut a Marvel film in the second quarter. The franchise’s only 2024 release, the R-rated “Deadpool & Wolverine,” is scheduled for late July.
