Isabela Merced expresses pure excitement every time she puts on the Hawkgirl costume. The 22-year-old actress, known for her role in “Transformers,” brings this iconic DC character to life in the upcoming “Superman” movie. In this role, she is required to wear harnesses and practice aerial combat techniques.
During an interview with Empire, Isabela shared her genuine enthusiasm, saying, “Honestly, inside, I’m just a nerd. I feel that’s what I really am. I go crazy every time I try on the superhero suit. It’s the coolest thing in the world for me.”
While she’s eager to share more, Isabela has to tread lightly around the plot details of the “Superman” film, set to debut in 2025. She humorously remarked, “I can feel James Gunn’s eyes boring into the back of my neck when I’m asked about the story.”
Joining Isabela in the new “Superman” cast are David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific. Though she is only in her early twenties, Isabela is already a seasoned player in the superhero genre. She gained experience from her roles in “Madame Web” and “Transformers: The Last Knight” back in 2017. Reflecting on her journey, she noted, “‘Transformers’ was a smooth transition into an adult career.”
When asked about her attraction to high-profile projects, Isabela commented, “I’m not sure. But every time I take part in one, I feel more comfortable being myself in these intimidating spaces. It allows me to envision myself in a future role that is beyond just being an actor. I really like having control; it’s both a gift and a curse.”
