Jeremy Allen White Shares Daughters’ Reactions to “The Bear” Fans Calling Him Chef
Jeremy Allen White, the star of the hit series “The Bear,” may be known as “Chef” to his fans, but to his daughters, he’s simply Dad. The 33-year-old actor recently opened up about how his daughters, Ezer, 5, and Dolores, 3, react to the attention he receives from fans who call him “Chef” in public.
During the premiere of the third season of “The Bear” on June 25, White spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the confusion his daughters feel when fans approach him with the nickname. “It’s confusing and strange, but they know about the show,” White said. Despite their awareness of his work, his daughters have not watched the series yet.
White shares his two daughters with his ex-wife, Addison Timlin. He mentioned that his oldest daughter, Ezer, enjoys the first two minutes of the pilot episode, which features a scene where White’s character gets scared by a bear and falls. “She’ll ask to watch that a lot, but that’s all of the show she’s seen,” White joked.
The actor admitted that he hasn’t decided when his daughters will be allowed to watch more of the series. “I don’t know if we’re even ready to have that conversation,” he said.
White’s portrayal of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in “The Bear” has earned him significant acclaim and a dedicated fan base. The show, which debuted on Hulu in June 2022, follows Carmy as he takes over The Beef restaurant after the death of his older brother, Mikey, played by Jon Bernthal. The series has been praised for its realistic depiction of the culinary world and the intense pressures faced by those working in it.
At the premiere, White looked dapper in a tan linen suit, white button-down shirt, and black tie. He expressed his excitement about celebrating the release of the new season, especially since they didn’t have a premiere for the second season due to strikes. “It’s beautiful,” he said, reflecting on the opportunity to celebrate with the cast and crew.
White’s daughters may not fully understand his fame, but they do appreciate his awards. After winning the trophy for outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series at the SAG Awards 2023, White shared that his statuette would be kept in his children’s bedroom. “They’ve started calling these Daddy’s trophy winner cups, and they really like them, so they can hang onto them for me,” he said.
While his daughters might be too young to grasp the full extent of his success, they do enjoy the benefits of having a dad who can cook. White has been known to prepare breakfast for his daughters every morning. “I cook breakfast for my daughters every morning, nothing terribly fancy,” he told People in 2022. Given his character’s culinary skills in “The Bear,” one can only imagine that his version of “nothing terribly fancy” is quite impressive.
As “The Bear” continues to gain popularity, White’s daughters will likely become more aware of their dad’s role in the show. For now, they remain blissfully unaware of the full extent of his fame, enjoying the simple pleasures of watching their dad on screen and playing with his awards.
In addition to his work on “The Bear,” White is set to portray Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere.” The film will follow Springsteen as he crafts his iconic album “Nebraska” with the E Street Band. Directed by Scott Cooper and produced by former Netflix chairman Scott Stuber, the film is an adaptation of Warren Zanes’ 2023 book “Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.”
White has been preparing for the role by learning to play the guitar, although he has yet to meet Springsteen personally. “I haven’t talked to him,” White said. “We’re still kind of putting it all together. We’re hoping to go later this year, but there’s definitely some things that we’re still trying to get into place.”
As White continues to balance his career and family life, his daughters will undoubtedly remain his top priority. While they may not fully understand why fans call him “Chef,” they will always know him as Dad, the man who cooks them breakfast and makes them laugh.
“The Bear” returns on June 26 with all episodes streaming on Hulu, offering fans another chance to see White in action as the beloved “Chef.”
