The Morning Show has just announced a significant casting addition: Jeremy Irons, the Oscar-winning legend, will join the series, and he seems to be the perfect fit for the drama! The Morning Show, one of Apple TV+’s launch series in 2019, has continued to be a top hit, offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look at a TV news show filled with wild twists and turns, supported by a stellar cast. The series is led by Jennifer Aniston as Alex Levy and Reese Witherspoon as her colleague Bradley Jackson.
Season 3 concluded with some major developments. Alex escorted Bradley to the FBI as Bradley was ready to turn in her own brother for his involvement in the January 6, 2022, Capitol attacks. Additionally, Alex secured a seat on the UBA board after negotiating a deal to save the network. Season 4 was already set to introduce Oscar winner Marion Cotillard as Celene Dumont, a power player poised to shake things up. There was also news of new characters, including Alex’s father, and now we know who will be playing him!
According to TV Line, Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons will portray Martin Levy, described as “a charming, sharp, deep-thinking man with a sense of humor. And, in what has probably not been super fun for Alex her entire life, Martin pulls no emotional punches.” This casting choice is expected to bring even more drama to the show.
Jeremy Irons has built a career on stealing the spotlight in any project he stars in. Since his breakout in the mid-1980s with films like Dead Ringers, he reached the pinnacle of his career by winning the Best Actor Oscar for his role in 1990’s Reversal of Fortune and voicing Scar in The Lion King. Since then, Irons has been a familiar face in hundreds of movies and shows, adept at handling everything from quiet period dramas to occasionally hamming it up in blockbusters, such as playing Alfred in the DCEU movies. For The Morning Show, which can shift from drama to camp, Irons is a compelling addition who can handle any material thrown his way.
Seeing Irons as Aniston’s father should be particularly interesting. It’s a unique casting choice, but if anyone can believably make Alex cower a bit, it’s Irons. He has the experience to be dominant, and the show has hinted that Alex had a tough time living up to her dad’s expectations. Irons is a master of blunt delivery with wicked dry sarcasm, which seems to fit Martin’s character well. It will also be intriguing to see him interact with other cast members, such as Billy Crudup.
We will have to wait to see Irons in action on the show, but adding an actor as esteemed as Irons as Aniston’s father promises to make Season 4 of The Morning Show even bigger and better than ever, with some intriguing character developments.
