President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19. The 81-year-old leader experienced a positive result on Wednesday after attending an event in Las Vegas. Fortunately, the White House has reported that his symptoms are mild.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre released a statement saying, “He is vaccinated and boosted and has mild symptoms. He will return to Delaware, where he will self-isolate and continue to perform all of his duties during that time. The White House will provide updates on the president’s health status.”
Additionally, the White House shared a statement from the president’s physician. The doctor explained that Biden would be entering a period of self-isolation at his Delaware home until he tests negative for the virus. The statement highlighted that the president felt fine during his first event of the day but began to feel unwell, prompting a COVID-19 test at the point of care, which returned a positive result.
Following the positive test, the statement continued, “The president will self-isolate according to CDC guidelines for symptomatic individuals. Confirmation PCR tests are pending. The president has received his first dose of Paxlovid and will be in isolation.”
Biden’s announcement comes just days after former President Donald Trump was reportedly shot in the ear during an apparent assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
At that time, Biden remarked, "It’s sickening. It’s one of the reasons we need to unite this country. We cannot allow this to happen. We cannot be like this; we cannot tolerate it. The bottom line is that Trump’s rally should have taken place peacefully, without any issues. The notion of political violence, or violence in the United States like this, is simply unheard of. It is just not appropriate. Everyone should condemn it. Everyone."
