Johan Mojica to Join Mallorca After His Copa América Participation

The transfer market in Europe remains active following the pauses caused by the Euro Cup and Copa América, where Spain and Argentina emerged as the continental champions.

Colombia had a commendable performance throughout the Copa América, held in the United States in 2024, featuring stars like James Rodríguez, Jefferson Lerma, and Jhon Córdoba. Among the standout players was left-back Johan Mojica, who recently signed with Mallorca FC, as announced on July 23, 2024. The Spanish team is led by Mexican coach Javier “El Vasco” Aguirre.

This marks Mojica’s seventh stint with a Spanish club in his career. The Colombian player has signed a three-year contract and joins the team from Osasuna in Pamplona.

The announcement came through Mallorca’s official X account (@RCD_Mallorca) regarding the Colombian international. Mojica, a graduate of Deportivo Cali, is continuing his European career, which began in 2014 with Rayo Vallecano, following a transfer from Cali for approximately €500,000, as reported by Transfermarkt.

In the 2023-2024 season, Mojica played 30 matches, starting in 22 of them and logging a total of 2,040 minutes with Osasuna, coached by Jagoba Arrasate. He also contributed 524 minutes over six matches for the Colombian national team, proving to be a key player for head coach Néstor Lorenzo.

Mojica is known for his tireless efforts in both offensive and defensive plays, although he faced challenges during defensive duties when tracking back. As the new member of the Mallorca squad, he will participate in a series of friendly matches leading up to August 10, facing teams like Barnsley and West Brom in England, as well as Spanish clubs Poblense, Burgos, and Mirandés. He is set to conclude the series against Bologna, a team that features Jhon Janer Lucumí, a Colombian central defender.

Mojica’s official competitive debut could be on August 18 at the Mallorca Son Moix Stadium against Real Madrid. This match will follow the presentation of star forward Kylian Mbappé, who was introduced by Florentino Pérez at the Nuevo Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid on July 16, 2024.

His last game was on the final day of the EA Sports League, where Osasuna drew 1-1 with Villarreal at the Estadio El Sadar in Pamplona. Mojica played the full 90 minutes in that match, which featured goals from Croatian forward Ante Budimir and José Luis Morales.

In September, Néstor Lorenzo’s national team will shift its focus to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in North America. The upcoming fixtures include important matches in the South American qualifiers:

– Uruguay vs. Paraguay
– Peru vs. Colombia
– Brazil vs. Ecuador
– Bolivia vs. Venezuela
– Argentina vs. Chile

Subsequently, the fixtures for Colombia will include a crucial match against Argentina and others involving Venezuela, Paraguay, Chile, and Ecuador.
