Justin Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday morning in the Hamptons on charges of driving while intoxicated. The 43-year-old singer was driving a 2025 BMW in Sag Harbor when he allegedly ran a stop sign and veered out of his lane, according to a police report.
Timberlake was pulled over around 12:30 a.m. by a Sag Harbor police officer who determined that the singer was intoxicated. The court documents stated that Timberlake had bloodshot and glassy eyes, a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, slowed speech, and was unsteady on his feet. He also performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.
The “Mirrors” singer told the officer he had consumed one martini and was following friends home. After his arrest, Timberlake was taken to a police station in East Hampton, where he refused to take a breath test. The court papers listed his occupation as “professional” and noted that he is “self-employed.”
Timberlake was arraigned later that morning in Sag Harbor and released without bond. He was charged with a misdemeanor for driving while intoxicated, and his next court date is scheduled for July 26, according to the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
The arrest comes as Timberlake is currently on his The Forget Tomorrow World Tour. He is scheduled to perform at Chicago’s United Center on June 21 and 22.
Sag Harbor, a historic village in the Hamptons, has long been a popular destination for the rich and famous. The area has seen its share of celebrity encounters with the law over the years. Timberlake’s arrest adds to the list of high-profile incidents in the region.
Timberlake’s lawyer and representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment. The singer’s legal representation for this case is prominent Hamptons lawyer Eddie Burke Jr.
Timberlake’s arrest and subsequent release come just days before his scheduled performances in Chicago. The singer’s latest album, “Everything I Thought I Was,” is part of his current tour, which has been well-received by fans.
Timberlake has previously admitted to excessive drinking. In 2019, he apologized for a “strong lapse in judgment” after being seen holding hands with his “Palmer” co-star Alisha Wainwright while visibly intoxicated. In a 2014 interview, he mentioned drinking a whole bottle of whiskey after a particularly rough performance.
Despite his past struggles with alcohol, Timberlake has also spoken out against drunk driving. In 2002, he condemned the dangers of driving under the influence after a fan was killed by a drunk driver while waiting to see him perform.
Timberlake first rose to fame as a member of the boy band NSYNC in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He later launched a successful solo career, earning multiple Grammy Awards and acclaim for his work as an actor.
The singer’s next court appearance is set for July 26, where he will face charges related to his DWI arrest. In the meantime, Timberlake is expected to continue his tour, with upcoming performances in Chicago and New York City.
As the story develops, more details about Timberlake’s arrest and legal proceedings are likely to emerge. For now, the singer remains focused on his tour and upcoming performances.
