Kalina of Bulgaria is not one to shy away from challenges. Passionate about sports and nature, she recently shared her secrets to maintaining a “steel body” and her love for hiking in the mountains. Now, the athletic princess has embarked on a new adventure: descending the Os Lucas gorge.
Located just a few kilometers from the village of Biescas and about twenty minutes from Jaca in Huesca, this gorge presents a short yet intense descent of 33 meters—comparable to the height of an eleven-story building. Together with her husband, Kitín Muñoz, and their son, Simeón, Kalina bravely slid down the waterfalls that punctuate the gorge.
Although the family currently resides in Bulgaria, just ten kilometers from Sofia and at the foot of the Vitosha forest—a stunning natural paradise—they recently traveled to Spain to attend an important event. They took part in the closing ceremony of the 79th Mountain Course and the 68th Special Operations Course at the Military School of Mountain Warfare and Special Operations in Jaca. This event was presided over by the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Amador Enseñat y Berea, and was attended by various dignitaries, including Colonel Mariano Alonso and Colonel José Ignacio Acevedo Espejo.
Kitín, a veteran Green Beret and an ambassador for the Army’s brand, was unable to miss this significant occasion. The military has long been a part of his life, dating back to his grandfather, Arturo Cebrián Sevilla, who served as a general to King Alfonso XIII. Kitín’s father also served in Sidi Ifni, further solidifying this military legacy.
In 1979, during his military service, Kitín sought to join the 31st Special Operations Company, known at the time for its specialized training and toughness. He recalls that the training he received as a guerrilla fighter in the mountains was one of the best gifts he could have received at the age of twenty. His experiences are documented in a book titled Boinas Verdes Españoles (Spanish Green Berets), co-authored with his commander, Terencio Pérez.
Recently, Kitín attended the Jaca event after returning from Camp Yarto base in Iraq, where Green Berets train Iraqi Special Forces soldiers to combat ISIS terrorists. This new experience is something he will surely share with his son, Simeón, who appears eager to continue the family’s military tradition. In his first statements to ¡HOLA!, the young prince revealed how his father shares stories of his youth fighting in the mountains. After finishing a sailing course in Cantabria, Simeón plans to return to the Green Berets camp in Madrid for the second consecutive year.
At just 17 years old, Simeón has shown great potential as a soldier and shares his parents’ passion for sports. Last year, he participated in the Hanmadang World Championships, the most prestigious martial arts competition, where he advanced in rank, earning the title of “Global Ambassador” for Taekwondo. While he enjoys his vacation in Spain, Kalina and Kitín have returned to their home in Bulgaria, likely preparing for their next adventure.
