Andrew Garfield’s girlfriend, Kate Tomas, has criticized the “misogynistic” reaction to their romance. The star of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ was first linked to Kate in March when they were seen on a double date with singer Phoebe Bridgers and comedian Bo Burnham in Malibu, California. Recently, Kate opened up about their relationship, expressing her feelings that her personal achievements are being overshadowed by who she is dating.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Kate voiced her frustrations, stating, “It’s frustrating that no matter how successful or impactful a woman is, it will always be more interesting if she is in a relationship with a man. I don’t want to live in someone’s shadow.”
Kate, who has been married four times previously, expressed her disdain for the “misogynistic nature” surrounding the public’s interest in her relationship. She lamented the criticism directed at women’s appearances and their professional lives, emphasizing that it often detracts from their accomplishments.
She also revealed that paparazzi tend to capture her at unflattering moments. “They take about 150 pictures and then choose the four where I look the worst,” she noted.
In a previous episode of her podcast, Kate discussed her experiences with public scrutiny, admitting that she was unprepared for the backlash from online trolls. “Nothing could have prepared me for literally thousands of women telling me I’m ugly, that I’m unattractive, that I’m less than anyone in every imaginable way,” she said.
Despite the negativity, Kate mentioned that she has adopted strategies to “regain the power that has been taken from her.” She asserted, “The most powerful form of psychic protection is knowing who you are and being okay with it.”
