Katy Perry previews songs from new album 143 says a lot of music is coming soon

Katy Perry has given fans a sneak peek into her upcoming sixth album, ‘143,’ and promised that “a lot of music” is on the way. The ‘California Girls’ singer recently took to her social media accounts to reveal the album’s title and cover art, which features her floating amidst a pink and blue whirlwind. ‘143’ is slated for release on September 20 and is already available for pre-sale and pre-order.

The announcement of the album title and release date came just a day before the premiere of Perry’s comeback single, ‘Woman’s World.’ This track, set to release today (July 11) at 12am BST, 7pm ET, and 4pm PST, marks a new era for the singer. Perry had previously shared a snippet of the song on TikTok, where she sings, “Sexy, confident / So intelligent / She is heaven sent / So soft / So strong,” over a lively pop beat. ‘Woman’s World’ will serve as the lead single for ‘143.’

In addition to ‘Woman’s World,’ Perry has shared snippets of several other new songs, including ‘I’m His, He’s Mine,’ ‘Gimme Gimme’ featuring 21 Savage, and another track titled ‘Nirvana.’ Fans can listen to these previews on her social media platforms.

Perry also discussed the release of her album, which coincides with her performance at the ‘Rock In Rio’ festival in Brazil. She expressed her excitement, saying, “I will be in Brazil playing Rock in Rio, and I just figured that all of my Brazilian fans are going to be singing at the top of their lungs. The album will come out that day, and I will be playing that night. They’ll have probably hopefully listened to it once through – they might know a few songs in the set. I’m going to put out a lot of music before then because I think that’s what you want.”

The ‘Roar’ singer began hinting at her new era in May by changing her profile picture. She teased her return to music by mentioning “one of [her] biggest songs that has yet to come out” during an American Idol event. Last December, it was reported that Perry was preparing to release her “most personal” material yet in 2024, with plans for a world tour also in the works.

Perry’s last studio album, ‘Smile,’ was released in 2020 and served as her fifth record. At the time, NME reviewed the album, giving it two stars and noting, “It’s frustrating, as this is the woman behind some of the most fun – and biggest-selling – songs of all time. But as much as you want ‘Smile’ to be a return to form, her fifth album’s songs fail to grip. All in all, ‘Smile’ lacks the fireworks of Perry’s record-breaking years.”

Fresh off announcing her sixth studio album ‘143,’ Perry went live across her social media profiles to share snippets of songs from the record. The album, which arrives on September 20, is described by the pop singer as a dance album, something she’s “always wanted to make.” “I’ve been talking about [doing] two albums the past eight years, and that’s a dance album and an acoustic album,” she said on Instagram Live. “I haven’t yet made the acoustic album. Well, we never stop writing. But I finally made the dance album, the album I always wanted to make.”

“This record is super high energy, it’s super summer, it’s very high BPM,” she continued. “We just had a family dance party to one of the songs, and it’s just full of so much joy, so much love, so much light.”

While signing vinyl inserts for ‘143,’ Perry previewed three songs from the album on both IG Live and TikTok Live. The first clip she played was for a song called ‘I’m His He’s Mine’ featuring Doechii, constructed around a sample of Crystal Waters’ 1991 hit ‘Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless).’ She followed with an upbeat number entitled ‘Nirvana,’ as well as ‘Gimme Gimme’ featuring 21 Savage.

“‘143’ is honestly a dance party,” she added on TikTok. “All fandoms, invited. And it’s high energy, lots of love, mostly lots of love and BPM, summer, sexy. And it’s for y’all.”

Perry initially teased this upcoming era last month with the news that its first single, ‘Woman’s World,’ would arrive on July 11 along with a music video. Though no tour has been announced, Perry mentioned on TikTok that she cleared her schedule so she’d be able to tour in the near future.
