Keanu Reeves often finds himself contemplating death. The 59-year-old actor acknowledged that while he hopes the end of his life will not bring pain, he can’t help but think about it. In fact, this awareness serves as a reminder for him to cherish what he has around him.
In an interview with BBC News, he expressed, “I’m 59, so I think about death all the time. I hope it’s not painful, but it certainly sensitizes us to appreciate the breath we have and the relationships we have the potential to forge.”
On another note, the actor recently shared that he "did not write" any part of his new novel. Reeves, known for his role in ‘John Wick’, collaborated with one of his favorite authors, China Miéville, on a book titled ‘The Book of Elsewhere’. This new work draws inspiration from his comic series ‘BRZRKR’ and focuses on the story of the immortal warrior Unute, known as B. However, Reeves allowed his collaborator to handle the writing process.
He revealed this in an interview with The Guardian, stating, “I didn’t want to write the book. I wanted another creator to take that journey. So, ultimately, China wrote the novel. It’s not like we can look at page eight and say, ‘Oh, I wrote this section.’ I didn’t write anything in the novel.”
The duo first met in Berlin in 2021 and discussed the initial draft over a series of Zoom meetings. Miéville, now 51, admitted that it took time for him to grasp Keanu’s ideas, but he eventually realized that the suggestions from the 59-year-old star were "absolutely correct."
He noted, “What struck me as particularly insightful were the character issues, which shouldn’t surprise us given his acting background. However, the way we discussed structural elements and character wasn’t necessarily aligned. We don’t use the same language. There was a process where I had to learn how to understand what he was suggesting. There were a couple of times when he would make remarks about B, and I thought, ‘I’m not getting what he’s saying.’ Then after a few exchanges, I’d finally understand. Each time it happened—I can remember three specific moments—I would think, ‘He’s absolutely right.’”
This collaboration has highlighted the unique synergy between two creative minds. Although Reeves stepped back from the writing, his insights significantly shaped the narrative. The blend of their artistic visions promises to bring something fresh to readers.
