Kevin Costner has finally addressed the swirling rumors about his alleged romance with singer Jewel. During a recent appearance on “The Howard Stern Show,” the “Yellowstone” star clarified the nature of his relationship with the folk singer, emphasizing that they have never dated.
When Stern mentioned the rumors, Costner was quick to respond, “No, Jewel and I are friends. We’ve never gone out ever. She’s special, and I don’t want these rumors to ruin our friendship because that’s what we have. She’s special to me. She’s beautiful enough to go out with.”
The rumors began after Costner and Jewel were seen together at Richard Branson’s Necker Island. Costner explained that he had been invited to the island for years and finally decided to go after his divorce from Christine Baumgartner was finalized. He mentioned that Jewel was part of a foundation event on the island, and they had some great conversations along with other guests, including Emma Watson.
Costner elaborated, “I got on a plane with nine people. Jewel was one of them. Emma Watson was one of them. The rumor was, I went down on a private plane with her and I went back on a private plane with her. I was on with nine people, and I don’t want the press to ruin this for us. I’ve had conversations with her, text-wise, and she’s so smart, and she’s been through a lot herself, and so we have a friendship. We don’t have a romance, and we’ve not dated.”
Photos from the event showed Jewel speaking into a microphone and appearing to sit on Costner’s lap, which fueled the rumors. Sources claimed the pair had flown to the Caribbean together and spent time together outside the event, describing their interactions as flirty.
Despite the speculation, Costner reiterated that their relationship is purely platonic. “She’s beautiful and smart enough for all those things. It just has never happened for us,” he said. He also mentioned that he had to explain the situation to his children, who had also heard the rumors.
Jewel, on her part, has also addressed the rumors in various interviews, describing Costner as a “great person” and acknowledging the public fascination with their relationship. However, she has not confirmed any romantic involvement.
Costner’s focus remains on his professional life, particularly his upcoming film “Horizon: An American Saga,” which he directed, co-wrote, and produced. The film is set to be released soon, and Costner has been busy with its promotion.
In a separate interview, Costner talked about casting his 15-year-old son Hayes in the film, describing it as a “selfish” decision but one that allowed him to spend more time with his son. “I selfishly wanted him with me for a week, two weeks, he was with me. And we’d go to the set every day and he’d whisper,” Costner said.
As for the rumors about his love life, Costner seems to be taking them in stride, focusing on his work and maintaining his friendships. “We have a friendship, we don’t have a romance. We’ve not dated. She’s beautiful and smart enough for all of those things, it just has never happened for us,” he reiterated.
With his busy schedule and the demands of his new film, it appears that Costner’s love life is taking a backseat for now. The rumors about him and Jewel have been officially laid to rest, at least for the time being.
