Kevin Spacey, the once-celebrated actor, has found himself in dire financial straits, revealing in a tearful interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” that his home is being foreclosed and he owes millions in legal fees. The actor, who has faced numerous sexual misconduct allegations, admitted he no longer has a permanent residence and is struggling to make ends meet.
During the interview, Spacey was asked about his current living situation. He responded, “It’s funny you ask that question because this week, where I have been living in Baltimore is being foreclosed on. My house is being sold at auction, so I have to go back to Baltimore and put my things in storage.” He added, “So the answer to that question is, I’m not sure where I am going to live now. But I’ve been in Baltimore since we started shooting ‘House of Cards’ there. I moved there in 2012. This [house] has been my home since 2016. I can’t pay the bills that I owe.”
The emotional toll of his financial woes was evident as Spacey fought back tears. When asked if he was facing bankruptcy, he admitted, “There’s been a couple of times when I thought I was going to file but we’ve managed to dodge it, at least as of today.” He further disclosed that he has no money left, stating, “You have some sense of legal bills. I still owe a lot… Yes [I am in debt]. It’s considerable. Many millions. The house itself is many millions.”
Spacey’s financial troubles stem from the numerous legal battles he has faced since allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced in 2017. Despite being found not guilty in several high-profile cases, including a 2022 New York trial and a 2023 U.K. trial, the legal fees have taken a significant toll on his finances. Spacey has consistently denied all allegations against him.
The actor’s fall from grace has been swift and severe. In 2017, Netflix fired him from “House of Cards” following allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior on set. The show continued for a sixth and final season without him, with Robin Wright taking over as the sole lead. Spacey revealed that he has not heard from Wright since the allegations first became public in 2017. “I haven’t heard from Robin since September or October 2017,” he said. “I understand. I do. I think by distancing herself from me it allowed her to not have to answer a lot of questions.”
Despite the controversies, some in the industry have voiced their support for Spacey. Sharon Stone and Liam Neeson are among those who have spoken out in favor of his return to acting. Stone described Spacey as a “genius” and “generous to a fault,” while Neeson called him “a good man and a man of character.”
However, Spacey remains skeptical about a potential comeback. “I don’t think it’s about the industry. I think it’s about our time,” he said. “I think it’s the time we are in. And people are very afraid. They are literally afraid that they’re going to get canceled if they stand up for someone who has been. We’ve seen this many times in history, this is not the first time it’s happened.”
Spacey also mentioned that he has spoken with many people who believe in him and support him, but they are afraid to stand up for fear of being canceled themselves. “They’re afraid they’re going to get canceled too,” he said.
The actor’s financial and legal troubles have been compounded by a recent two-part documentary titled “Spacey Unmasked,” which aired in the U.K. and is now streaming on Max. The documentary features previously unheard testimonies about Spacey’s alleged sexual misconduct, including claims that he groped another “House of Cards” actor on set.
As Spacey grapples with his uncertain future, the once-revered actor’s story serves as a stark reminder of the far-reaching consequences of legal battles and public allegations. His financial struggles and the foreclosure of his home underscore the profound impact these issues have had on his life.
