Khloé Kardashian recently found herself in the spotlight, not for her business ventures or reality TV antics, but for defending her six-year-old daughter True’s makeup choices during a dance recital. The Good American co-founder took to Instagram to share a series of photos from the event, featuring True and her cousins Dream, 7, and Chicago, 5, all dolled up for their big day.
“My girls had their dance recital yesterday! Year 3 done 🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️ I can’t believe they already have done three years of dance,” Khloé captioned the post. She expressed her pride in the girls, who performed both ballet and hip-hop routines, and emphasized that the makeup was a one-time thing for the recital. “None of our girls wear makeup like this regularly,” she clarified. “They are beautiful just as they are. Yesterday was super special 🩷 memories for a lifetime.”
Despite her heartfelt post, the internet was quick to react. Several fans took to the comments section to question why True and her cousins were wearing such heavy makeup at such a young age. “Wow 😲😲😲 such strong make-up for children,” one person wrote. Another added, “Lipstick 💄 on a 👶 child 😢,” while a third opined, “The face full of makeup is so sad.”
Khloé, who shares True and one-year-old son Tatum with ex Tristan Thompson, didn’t shy away from addressing the criticism. When a fan commented that it was “sad” she had to specify why her daughter was wearing makeup, Khloé replied, “People are cray cray. Obvi I would hope no one would do this normally to a 6-year-old.”
This isn’t the first time Khloé has faced backlash over her parenting choices. Earlier this month, she was criticized for allowing True to become “the new face” of the pajama brand Zip N’ Bear. Some fans felt it was inappropriate for a child to be working, while others accused Khloé of pushing her “nepo kids” into the spotlight.
Khloé’s post from the dance recital was filled with joy and pride. “Life is moving quickly. They did two dances this year- Ballet and hip-hop. I am so so proud of them! They were absolutely perfect,” she wrote. The girls wore two different costumes for their performances: pink tutus for ballet and red and white striped baseball-themed outfits for hip-hop. Their faces were adorned with rosy blush and matching lipstick, and their hair was styled in slicked-back buns.
Khloé and her sister Kim Kardashian kept their looks casual for the event, with Khloé in black leggings and a short-sleeved black shirt, and Kim also opting for black attire. The girls were gifted pink flower bouquets to celebrate their milestone, and Khloé’s best friend Malika Haqq commented, “Look at these angels.” The star’s go-to makeup artist Ash Kholm added, “Honored to be True’s Mua,” while former Teen Mom star Kailyn Lowry showed support by writing, “I love that the cousins get to do dance together.”
The dance recital also featured Chicago West, the youngest daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and Dream Kardashian, the only child of Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna. Both girls, like True, wore makeup for the event, which is a common practice in children’s dance recitals to ensure their features are visible under stage lights.
Despite the criticism, many fans and fellow moms came to Khloé’s defense. “I love that the cousins get to do dance together,” one user wrote. Another added, “Such a great mom and aunt.. love you Khloe.” A third commented, “Us dance moms totally understand the use of the makeup but obviously some of you will just jump to conclusions.”
Khloé’s post concluded with a heartfelt message to her 308 million followers: “Memories for a lifetime.” The reality TV star has always been open about her parenting journey, often sharing glimpses of her life with True and Tatum on social media. While the criticism may sting, it’s clear that Khloé is focused on creating special memories for her children, makeup and all.
In a world where every parenting choice is scrutinized, Khloé’s decision to let True wear makeup for a dance recital may seem trivial to some but significant to others. Regardless, it’s a reminder that every parent has their own way of celebrating their children’s milestones, and sometimes, a little makeup is just part of the fun.
