Kiana Madeira to Star in and Executive Produce Fighter Drama Baby Love

Kiana Madeira, known for her roles in the Fear Street trilogy, is set to make her debut as an executive producer while also starring in the indie fighter drama Baby Love. This film marks the feature debut of writer-director Joseph Marconi. Joining Madeira in the cast are Marielle Scott from Lady Bird, Maury Sterling and Amy Hargreaves from Homeland, Blake Lindsley of 9-1-1 fame, and Irene Bedard, known for her role in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The narrative of Baby Love revolves around Rhiannon “Baby Love” Mitchell, portrayed by Madeira. Rhiannon is an MMA fighter teetering on the edge of self-destruction, navigating the brutal world of underground fight circuits. Her journey is fraught with physical and emotional challenges. A series of concussions jeopardizes her career, leading her to an unconventional equine therapy program. Initially skeptical and resistant, Rhiannon slowly forms a bond with the horses and other patients in the program. Through this process, she rediscovers her inner strength and confronts her past. As she heals, she faces a pivotal decision: whether to return to the ring or embark on a new path.

Lysette Urus and Maury Sterling are producing the film. Marconi expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Baby Love is a very special and personal film that combined two worlds—MMA and Equine Therapy—and allowed me to tell a recovery story in fresh and unexpected ways. Working with Kiana in the lead role was miraculous; she brought a fierce and vulnerable energy to Rhiannon Mitchell that elevated the film.”

Kiana Madeira has gained recognition for her role in Netflix’s coming-of-age drama series Trinkets. Her film credits include Netflix’s horror film trilogy Fear Street and the popular After franchise of YA films. She has also appeared in indie titles such as Brother and Perfect Addiction.

Joseph Marconi began his career in advertising before transitioning to writing and directing short films, music videos, and branded content. He also worked as a New York City nightlife photographer for a brief period. In 2021, he was named a Film Independent Fellow, and his short film Wild Animal won Best Short Film and Best Made in Montana Film at the 2021 MINT Film Festival.
