Kyle Richards Used to Think It Would Be ‘Impossible’ to Go Two Weeks Without Alcohol

Kyle Richards used to believe that it would be “impossible” to go two weeks without alcohol. The 55-year-old television star has been sober for exactly two years. As she celebrated this significant milestone, she reflected on the difficulties she faced in changing her lifestyle, until she began to see the benefits of her decision.

In a recent Instagram post, she shared, “This week marks 2 years without alcohol (July 15). I remember a time when the idea of being sober for 2 weeks seemed impossible. I am proud to have found the willpower to stay on this path. I know many people would love for me to drink again, even friends with the best intentions. Everyone loved ‘Party Kyle.’ That was probably the hardest part of this journey—the resistance from others. My former self, the one who aimed to please everyone, struggled with that aspect. But I quickly realized that I wouldn’t have many supporters. However, I have now developed a strong understanding of when to step back. My mental and physical health has become far more important to me than feeling like I need to be at a party or in a social setting. I won’t lie—seeing myself look better because I stopped drinking was also a motivation to stay on track. But the true reward is how I feel inside. I feel strong, energized, and grateful for my body. I want to take care of it as it has taken care of me. Going through tough times would have been so much harder if I had been drinking.”

The star of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” expressed her gratitude for the fans who have cited her as an inspiration in their own journeys to sobriety. These days, she prefers to wake up without a hangover or the worries about what she might have done the night before.

She stated, “I want to wake up every day feeling my best—mentally and physically strong enough to face whatever comes my way. Many strangers approach me and tell me that I’ve inspired them to start their own alcohol-free journeys. That makes me happy and motivates me to keep going. So, thank you for that. I often think of a quote by Ernest Hemingway: ‘I drink to make others more interesting.’ Personally, I prefer to see people and situations as they are—without anxiety.”
