Lewis Hamilton has signed an agreement to collaborate with Dior. The Formula 1 champion will serve as an ambassador for the luxury fashion house and is working on a limited collection in partnership with its creative director, Kim Jones. This collection will draw inspiration from the African continent and aims to promote more environmentally-friendly fashion practices.
The 39-year-old race driver spoke about this exciting venture in an interview with WWD, expressing his enthusiasm: “Honestly, it has been a dream. We have both talked a lot about Africa.” Kim Jones, who spent part of his childhood in countries like Botswana, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Ghana due to his father’s work as a hydrogeologist, praised the “sustainable fabrics” sourced from places such as Burkina Faso.
At 50 years old, Kim shared his vision: “Some of the fabrics have been made in Burkina Faso. We’re working with individuals who help us obtain sustainable textiles across the continent, and we are studying how we can ensure the next generation has the training needed to work in a studio like this.”
Lewis Hamilton emphasized the importance of ensuring their collaboration creates a significant impact on the fashion industry. He pointed out that many brands “are not aware” of climate change’s effects. He expressed his desire for the partnership to make a difference: “We want to ensure it has an impact. Making it sustainable was key. When a major house like Dior advocates for this technology, the aim is to encourage other brands to follow suit because many are unaware of these issues.”
This collaboration not only showcases creative innovation in fashion but also highlights a commitment to sustainability, setting a potential example for others in the industry.
