José Peña, the father of Loan, expressed his frustration over the current state of the investigation, saying it feels like the case is “at square one.” He urged Governor Gustavo Valdés to visit their town, hoping for some understanding on the issue. “We hope he opens his mind a little,” Peña said.
This sentiment came after a significant day when interrogations of the eight detainees concluded, including the testimony of Francisco Méndez. The father of the missing boy shared his anguish, lamenting that they still lack any substantial updates. “We have no information. It’s as if we are back to Day One. We continue hoping for good news, but nothing appears. Our lawyers haven’t provided any new information,” he stated.
The case surrounding Loan Peña has prompted actions from the judiciary, including a raid led by Judge Cristina Penzo on a property in 9 de Julio. Meanwhile, the family continues to plead for someone to come forward with information.
Peña also spoke about the response of Governor Valdés, expressing the desire for personal engagement. “I wish the governor would come and give us an answer. We are not against him, but he hasn’t reached out at all. It would be important for him to come and talk with us directly,” he said. The search for Loan Peña remains ongoing.
In the meantime, Peña’s family and supporters are eager for Valdés to arrive in 9 de Julio, with plans to welcome him should he decide to offer his assistance. However, Peña also urged community members to refrain from violent protests. “We ask that they do not act rashly because it could lead to worse outcomes. They have every right to be angry, but they need to control themselves to avoid chaos.”
On another front, federal police conducted searches at the homes of a son of Caillava and his ex-brother-in-law as part of the investigation. One such raid targeted the home of Jorge Bertón, known as “Jorgito,” where authorities examined a parked white pickup truck, a boat, and the area near a swimming pool.
Bertón’s name surfaced following the arrests of Caillava and Pérez, ordered by Goya prosecutors Juan Carlos Castillo and Guillermo Berry. A neighbor had previously mentioned that Bertón was retrieving his mother’s boat, fearing it might be vandalized.
Notably, a local resident reported seeing a speeding vehicle on the night of Loan’s disappearance, around 11 PM. This vehicle was spotted entering a rural road that leads to El Algarrobal, the last known location of the missing boy.
Additionally, federal police executed a search warrant at the residence of Cristian Bertón, Caillava’s ex-husband’s brother, who also owned a white pickup truck. The investigation continues as authorities strive to uncover the truth behind Loan Peña’s disappearance.
