Marion County Transfer Station Now Operational

The Marion County Transfer Station is now operational, marking a significant milestone for the community. This new facility aims to streamline waste management processes and provide residents with a more efficient way to dispose of their waste.

As of January 1, 2023, solid waste dump tickets are available for $30. These tickets can be purchased at the County Clerk’s office using cash, check, or money order. The transfer station’s operational hours vary by precinct, ensuring accessibility for all residents.

Precinct 1 accepts automobile, truck, and trailer tires, but not commercial or heavy-duty tires. Additionally, batteries can be disposed of at this location. The operational hours for Precinct 1 are Monday and Wednesday from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Precinct 2 operates on Wednesday and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Precinct 3 is open on Thursday and Friday from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Precinct 4 is available on Tuesday and Thursday from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

In addition to the new transfer station, Marion County has adopted a new tax rate for 2023. The adopted tax rate is .5222938, which will raise more funds for maintenance and operations compared to last year’s rate. This increase will effectively raise taxes by 7.05 percent, impacting a $100,000 home by approximately $-22.14.

Residents are also reminded of the upcoming Earth Week, scheduled from Sunday, April 21 to Tuesday, April 30, 2024. During this period, certain items such as brush, shingles, paint products, batteries, boats, and oil will not be accepted at the transfer station.

For those needing airplane fuel, AVFUEL is now available at the Cypress River Airport. The self-serve credit card machine makes it convenient for pilots to refuel their aircraft.

In case of emergencies, residents are encouraged to register for Smart911, a rapid emergency notification system. This system allows individuals to enter their contact information, ensuring they receive timely notifications during area-wide emergencies. Previous registrations in CODE RED will not transfer, so residents must register again with Smart911.

For those seeking FEMA assistance, the contact number is 1-800-621-3362, and more information can be found at www.DisasterAssistance.gov. Additionally, federal benefit payments are transitioning to an all-electronic system. Residents can register for direct payments at www.GoDirect.org.

The opening of the Marion County Transfer Station is a significant development for the community, providing a more efficient and organized way to manage waste. With the new tax rate and various services available, residents are encouraged to take advantage of these resources to ensure a cleaner and safer environment.
