Marshall, a rescue dog from the Mexican Red Cross team in Acámbaro, Guanajuato, sadly passed away on the morning of July 20. The seven-year-old canine had been struggling with health issues for some time, suffering from chronic renal failure, which ultimately led to his demise.

The Mexican Red Cross in Acámbaro announced Marshall’s passing through social media, emphasizing that he completed his “final service” accompanied by his handler, Carlos Pérez. Marshall had been a valuable member of the SAR-K9 emergency team, participating in various rescue missions throughout his career.

A brief ceremony was held to honor Marshall’s dedicated service over the years. During the tributes, staff members laid flowers and shared photographs, sending him off with a heartfelt inscription: “the reason for being with you,” engraved on his urn.

Claudia Silvia, the newly elected mayor of Acámbaro, also paid tribute to Marshall, acknowledging his contributions as a search hero. She recognized his participation in the aftermath of Hurricane Otis in Guerrero and during the 2017 earthquake in Mexico. Coincidentally, Marshall’s passing coincided with the World Dog Day, leading the mayor to reflect on the significance of this tribute as a fitting homage from friends and peers.

Marshall lived to be seven years old, having been born on April 28, 2016, before passing away on July 20, 2024. Throughout his time on the rescue team, he played an integral role in locating missing persons, notably helping find an elderly man who had gone missing in the community of Tocuaro.

Their key roles include search and rescue operations in disaster-stricken areas, detection of illegal substances, and providing support in security and veterinary services. They also assist in managing crowds at large events, help with police operations, and contribute to therapy and assistance programs.

Marshall will be fondly remembered for his bravery and loyalty, leaving an indelible mark on the community he served valiantly. His legacy as a rescue dog serves as a reminder of the critical role these canine heroes play in ensuring safety and support in times of need.
