Marvel is set to unveil exciting new content at the upcoming D23 event, including sneak peeks of “X-Men ’97” Season 2 and “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.” The “Ultimate Disney Fan Event” in Anaheim will also feature previews of “Eyes of Wakanda,” “What If…?” Season 3, and other surprises. Fans have been eagerly anticipating updates on these shows, and Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum is expected to be present for some of these announcements.
Michael Vargo, head of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, expressed his excitement for the event, stating, “We are thrilled for fans of all ages to join us in Anaheim next month for what will truly be the ultimate Disney fan experience.” He added that this year’s D23 has been reimagined to showcase even more of what fans love from across the Disney universe. The event will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center, where guests can enjoy incredible programming and show floor offerings.
One of the highlights for Marvel fans will be “Eyes of Wakanda,” a Black Panther animated series closely tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Brad Winderbaum discussed the show on The Official Marvel Podcast, explaining that it delves into Wakandan history and is produced by Ryan Coogler and directed by Todd Harris. Winderbaum described the show as having insane action and fantastic storytelling, expanding into the greater MCU at different time periods.
The D23 event will feature over 230 panels, presentations, and show floor offerings. Among the most anticipated are the Marvel Animation Sneak Peek panel, which will present first looks at “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” “Eyes of Wakanda,” future seasons of “What If…?,” “X-Men ’97,” and more. Following the success of “Inside Out 2,” there will also be a panel with the film’s production designer, Jason Deamer, who will share how Pixar brought new emotions to life. Additionally, a special sneak peek of an upcoming Pixar series, rumored to be a “Dream Productions” Disney+ spin-off of “Inside Out 2,” will be revealed.
The biggest presentations at D23, including the Disney Entertainment Showcase, Disney Experiences Showcase, and Disney Legends Awards Ceremony, will take place at the Honda Center. Other panels will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center. Highlights include “30 Years of Toy Story,” a musical celebration of Richard M. Sherman, and a panel celebrating 50 years of Wolverine with Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and writer Jason Aaron.
The show floor at D23 will be the largest in the event’s history, offering guests interactive and immersive experiences. These include a look at the world of Disney Imagineering, a Walt Disney Archives vintage car show, the Magic of Disney on Broadway, and an Avatar Pavilion where guests can explore the Bioluminescent Forest and soar through the mountains like a banshee. Attendees can also walk through Loki’s Time Variance Authority (TVA) and much more.
For those who secured tickets to D23, a “Reservation Random Selection Process” will open on July 15, allowing attendees to try and secure access to their desired panels and experiences. Reservations are not guaranteed and are random, but standby queues will be available for most Anaheim Convention Center panels and experiences.
In addition to Marvel content, D23 will feature panels and presentations on a wide range of Disney properties. These include “30 Years of Toy Story,” “Jolly Holiday: A D23 Musical Celebration of Richard M. Sherman,” “Disney Princess – The Concert,” and “From Book to Screen: How Bestselling Novels Become Hit TV Series and Films.” Animation fans can look forward to sessions featuring creators and cast members from “Bob’s Burgers,” “Futurama,” and “The Simpsons.”
