Matthew McConaughey recently experienced a severe reaction to a bee sting, leaving his face significantly swollen. The 54-year-old actor, known for his role in “True Detective,” shared the impact of the incident by posting an image on his Instagram profile. In the photo, he sported a smile despite having his right eye so swollen and inflamed that it was completely closed.
With the snapshot, he simply captioned it, “Bee sting.” At this time, it’s unclear exactly how or where he was stung. However, McConaughey has been busy wrapping up his latest film project, a crime thriller titled “The Rivals of Amziah King.” The plot details of the movie remain under wraps, but he was previously spotted on set carrying boxes of honey.
Bee stings can lead to inflammation and other complications, especially if they occur near the eye, which can result in conditions like optic neuritis and glaucoma. McConaughey filmed this movie in Alabama last year, and it has since moved into post-production. The film also stars Kurt Russell, Cole Sprouse, and Owen Teague.
Injuries are not unfamiliar to McConaughey during filming. In 2008, he suffered a severe cut on his face that required stitches while preparing for a movie titled “The Grackle,” which was never completed. He has also had his share of risky encounters, such as petting a live tiger for his 2016 thriller “Gold.” He recounted the experience to Vulture, noting that they filmed that scene in New Mexico as the final shot of the movie. He added, “If something had happened during that scene, they wouldn’t have needed me on screen anymore.”
