In Mexico City on July 20, EL UNIVERSAL reported that a video circulating on social media allegedly shows Donald Trump claiming that Marcelo Ebrard has a low IQ. Jorge Álvarez Máynez, a former presidential candidate in Mexico, asserted that the clip is fake.
Álvarez expressed disappointment that both Claudia Sheinbaum and Marcelo Ebrard reacted to this purported insult from the former U.S. presidential candidate. He pointed out that the video, where Trump refers to Biden as "a low IQ individual," was edited and contained unverified information. He wrote on his X account, "Trump’s remarks about Mexico are unacceptable. However, the fact that two top-level representatives of the next government are reacting to an edited video without verifying the information is concerning."
He urged the Mexican government to respond decisively to Trump’s disparaging comments. "In the face of Trump, we must act firmly: be resolute yet strong," he stated.
The video surfaced earlier that day, showing Trump labeling the former Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, as someone with "a low IQ," claiming, "I guarantee you, it’s below 50 or 60." Following this, both the elected president Claudia Sheinbaum and Ebrard himself voiced their disapproval of the insult.
Ricardo Monreal, the President of the Senate’s Political Coordination Board, also condemned Trump’s remarks. He emphasized, "Respect is essential to build lasting bonds of trust between individuals, partners, and neighbors," as he shared his thoughts on X.
