MCU Blade Movie Reboot Loses Another Director

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade reboot has hit another snag, losing its second director in the process. Yann Demange, known for his work on Lovecraft Country, has officially exited the project. This departure adds to the growing list of production issues that have plagued the film since its announcement.

According to insider sources from TheWrap, Demange’s exit was amicable and occurred some time ago. However, no specific reasons were provided for his decision to step down. Marvel higher-ups have emphasized that getting Blade right is more important than rushing the film’s release.

This isn’t the first time the Blade reboot has faced directorial changes. Initially, Bassam Tariq was set to direct the film, but he left the project in September 2021 due to shifts in Marvel’s production schedule. Despite his departure, Tariq remains an executive producer on the film.

The Blade reboot, starring Mahershala Ali, has been in development for over five years. Since its announcement at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019, the film has undergone multiple script rewrites and faced several delays. The script has evolved from a story focusing on Blade’s daughter to a more straightforward narrative of Blade hunting vampires.

The film’s release date has been pushed back multiple times, with the current target set for November 7, 2025. However, given the ongoing production issues, it’s uncertain whether this date will hold. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has reportedly expressed frustration over the film’s pre-production quality, adding to the project’s troubled history.

Despite these setbacks, Marvel remains committed to bringing Blade to the big screen. The character, a vampire hunter, has a dedicated fan base and a rich history in Marvel Comics. The reboot aims to reintroduce Blade to a new generation of fans while staying true to the character’s roots.

As of now, Marvel Studios and Disney have not commented on Demange’s departure. The search for a new director is likely underway, but no official announcements have been made. The Blade reboot continues to face an uphill battle, but fans remain hopeful that the film will eventually see the light of day.
