Meghan Markle has once again found herself in the spotlight, this time for allegedly inviting comparisons to Princess Kate. The Duchess of Sussex’s latest move has drawn criticism from former Royal Correspondent Michael Cole, who believes Meghan’s actions are designed to overshadow Kate’s public appearances.
Princess Kate made her first public appearance of 2024 at the Trooping the Colour event, following her recent cancer diagnosis and treatment. The Princess of Wales was met with admiration for her courage and grace during this challenging time. However, just hours before the event, Meghan’s close friend, Argentinian polo player Nacho Figueras, took to Instagram to promote new products from Meghan’s lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
Figueras shared images of raspberry jam and dog biscuits, which will soon be available for purchase. This timing did not sit well with Michael Cole, who spoke to GBN America host Nana Akua about the incident. Cole remarked that Meghan’s actions often invite comparisons with Princess Kate, and in his view, Meghan does not fare well in these comparisons.
“Kate comes from a middle-class background and was never trained to be a royal or an actress,” Cole noted. “In everything Meghan does, she seems to invite a comparison with Kate, and unfortunately, she doesn’t come off very well.”
Nana Akua also found the timing of Meghan’s product launch “very odd” and suggested that Meghan might have hoped to overshadow Kate’s appearance at Trooping the Colour. When asked about Princess Kate’s return to the public eye, Cole praised her for her bravery and elegance.
“Courage is often defined as grace under pressure, and we saw that with Kate on Saturday,” Cole said. “It’s challenging enough to cope with cancer, but to do so while the world is watching is an incredible ordeal.”
Princess Kate looked stunning in a black and white Jenny Packham dress and matching hat, displaying what Cole described as “great dignity, elegance, and stoicism.” He added, “If you went to a Hollywood casting agency and asked for a princess, they’d come up with someone like Kate.”
Meghan Markle’s actions continue to spark debate and draw comparisons to Princess Kate. Whether intentional or not, these comparisons often highlight the differences between the two women, with many feeling that Meghan’s attempts to overshadow Kate are in poor taste.
