This facility will be located in Querétaro and is expected to significantly boost the country’s development in this field. Campero noted, “There’s news circulating about Mexico’s plans to set up a space base in Querétaro, which will bring a major boost to this already well-developed city.” He emphasized the importance of this development for Latin America, mentioning that the space sector is one of the fastest-growing areas of the new economy in the coming years.
In discussing Argentina’s current position in the space sector, Campero pointed out, “In Argentina, the space industry is relatively stagnant. While we are among the top 15 space powers globally, our primary strength lies in satellite development.” He suggested that Argentina must acknowledge that this sector is projected to grow at an annual rate of 10% in the coming years, significantly outpacing global growth.
Campero also indicated that Mexico’s advancements may not provide immediate benefits to the rest of the region. “Initially, we would see no benefits, unless collaboration between Latin American space agencies increases, potentially leading to lower launch costs,” he mentioned. He highlighted Argentina’s plans to launch several satellites in the near future, which need to be prioritized.
Moreover, he pointed out that Argentina is quite agile in navigating the launch market, which often constitutes one of the highest costs associated with satellite deployment.
In closing, Campero underscored that while Mexico’s developments could offer substantial benefits for their own economy, they could also be advantageous for Argentina, provided that opportunities are seized to lower launch costs and effectively integrate their products into the market.
